CUPRA has given its electric hot hatch a thorough mid-life makeover, and the new CUPRA Born arrives sharper, more powerful and better-equipped than before. Revealed in March 2026, the facelifted Born keeps its MEB underpinnings but adds a bold "shark-nose" front with triangular Matrix LED headlights, a much-improved interior with a 10.25-inch driver display and Android-based software, and longer range — up to around 631 km (WLTP) on the 79 kWh battery. Topping the range is the returning Born VZ, now packing 240 kW (326 PS) for a 5.6-second 0–100 km/h sprint. Prices in the UK start from £34,190, with the VZ flagship from £45,995. It's a Europe-and-UK car — CUPRA doesn't sell in the US.
Performance & Specs
The standard Born is rear-wheel drive with a single motor making 170 kW (231 PS) and 310 Nm, good for a 0–100 km/h of around 6.7 seconds and a 160 km/h top speed. The star, though, is the Born VZ — still rear-wheel drive (not all-wheel drive) but with a much stronger single motor producing 240 kW (326 PS) and 545 Nm. That's enough for 0–100 km/h in 5.6 seconds (0–50 km/h in just 2.6 s) and a 200 km/h top speed, with a new E-Launch launch-control system. The VZ also gets DCC adaptive damping as standard, with up to 15 Sport settings, plus an electronic limited-slip differential, reinforced brakes and Sabelt sport seats — making it a genuinely sharp, driver-focused electric hatch.

As a compact hatchback, the Born is easy to live with day to day. At 4,336 mm long on a 2,766 mm wheelbase, the rear-motor MEB layout frees up a roomy cabin with good rear space for the class, and there's a 385-litre boot that expands to over 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded. The facelift's redesigned bumpers make it fractionally longer and taller than before. Kerb weight ranges from around 1,900 kg to roughly 2,000 kg for the VZ. It's a practical five-door that doesn't sacrifice everyday usability for its sporty looks and performance.

Charging & Battery
The Born offers two usable battery sizes: a 59 kWh pack good for around 427 km WLTP, and a 79 kWh pack delivering up to roughly 600–631 km depending on trim and wheels. The bigger battery now charges faster too, accepting up to 183 kW DC for a 10–80% top-up in under half an hour, while the 59 kWh peaks at 165 kW (around 24 minutes). All versions use a CCS Combo 2 port with 11 kW AC charging, and a heat pump is available as an option to protect range in cold weather. The new vehicle-to-load function adds versatility, letting the car power external equipment.

Design & Interior
The facelift gives the Born a more aggressive, grown-up look. The new "shark-nose" front end wears triangular Matrix LED headlights in place of the old rounded units, with reshaped bumpers and copper accents that nod to CUPRA's signature colour. At the rear there's an illuminated 3D light bar and a lit CUPRA logo, plus a new Timanfaya Grey paint option and 19- or 20-inch wheels. Inside, the changes are even more welcome: a redesigned dashboard with new door panels, a fresh steering wheel that brings back physical buttons (addressing a key complaint about the old touch controls), and a far bigger 10.25-inch driver display. Material quality is up, and VZ models get Sabelt bucket seats and copper detailing for a properly sporting feel.
Technology & Features
The cabin's centrepiece is a 12.9-inch central touchscreen running CUPRA's new Android-based operating system, complete with an app store and shared with the latest Formentor. It's paired with the new 10.25-inch digital cockpit (up from just 5.3 inches before) and an optional augmented-reality head-up display. Other additions include up to 90W USB-C charging, a 15W cooled wireless charger, a Mobile Device Key that turns up to four phones into car keys, and an optional 10-speaker Sennheiser sound system. Illuminated climate sliders and the return of proper steering-wheel buttons make it much easier to use on the move.
Safety & ADAS
The Born comes with a comprehensive safety package including Front Assist autonomous emergency braking, Lane Assist, traffic-sign recognition, and Side and Exit Assist. The available Travel Assist 3.0 brings Level 2 driver assistance with adaptive cruise control and lane centering, and there's Intelligent Park Assist for automated parking. It's a well-rounded suite that matches the class standard.

Pricing & Availability
The new CUPRA Born was revealed in March 2026, with production at Zwickau and a market launch in summer 2026. UK pricing starts at £34,190 for the 59 kWh, £35,495 for the 79 kWh, and from £45,995 for the Born VZ; European prices start around €41,450. As with all CUPRA models, the Born is sold in Europe and the UK and is not offered in the United States. A lower-powered 150 kW entry version is available in some European markets.
How It Compares
The Born shares its bones with the Volkswagen ID.3, but CUPRA gives it sportier looks, a sharper chassis and — uniquely in this group — a genuine hot-hatch VZ flagship that none of these rivals can match. The Renault Megane E-Tech is cheaper but offers less range and power, while the Kia EV3 counters with strong range and a long warranty. Against the ID.3, the Born is the more characterful, driver-focused choice for similar money. For buyers who want an electric hatch with attitude and a proper performance halo, the Born stands out.
- Genuine hot-hatch VZ: 326 PS, 0-100 in 5.6s
- Long range — up to 631 km on the 79 kWh battery
- Much-improved interior: bigger screens, physical buttons return
- Sharp, distinctive styling and rear-wheel-drive handling
- Not sold in the United States
- Heat pump and some kit are cost options
- VZ flagship is pricey at £45,995
The facelifted CUPRA Born is exactly the update this electric hatch needed. It fixes the old car's biggest weaknesses — a cramped driver display and fiddly touch controls — while adding sharper styling, longer range of up to 631 km, faster 183 kW charging and a genuinely hot 326 PS VZ flagship. Rear-wheel drive, DCC suspension and an e-diff give the VZ real driver appeal that its VW ID.3 cousin can't match, and the standard cars are now far nicer inside. The only catches are that it's Europe-and-UK only and the VZ isn't cheap. But as a stylish, sporty, long-range electric hatchback, the new Born is one of the most compelling in its class.
