The Hongqi E-HS9 is the flagship electric SUV of FAW's premium brand, a 5.2-metre six-seater whose design is credited to Giles Taylor. It has been on sale outside China since late 2021, but the version that matters today is the 120 kWh Long Range: a dual-motor all-wheel-drive BEV with 405 kW (551 PS, about 544 hp), 750 Nm and a WLTP range of up to 515 km. In Israel the importer Samelet lists it at NIS 499,000 (about $163,700), and in the Czech Republic the official list price is CZK 2,999,000 including VAT, about $138,500. A stock car advertised by an authorised Czech dealer carries a promotional price of CZK 2,399,000. The E-HS9 earned five stars in Euro NCAP's 2025 tests, and its main compromises are a 400-volt charging system and a modest boot with all three rows in use.
Performance & Specs
The top E-HS9 uses two permanent-magnet motors, one per axle, which makes it all-wheel drive. The Czech dealer Auto Anex Decin, an authorised Hongqi seller, lists them as a 160 kW front motor and a 245 kW rear motor, for a combined 405 kW. The Israeli importer Samelet prints the output as 551 "hp", but the figure is metric: 551 PS is about 544 hp, and the same number follows from 405 kW multiplied by 1.341. Torque is 750 Nm (Samelet gives 76.5 kgm, the same value), 0-100 km/h takes 4.9 seconds and the top speed is about 200 km/h. Those numbers belong to the 99 kWh and 120 kWh cars alike; the entry 84 kWh version is weaker, with 320 kW (435 PS, about 429 hp), 600 Nm and a 0-100 km/h time of roughly 6.5 seconds according to the Czech dealer.
The E-HS9 is a heavy car. Samelet lists a kerb weight of 2,702 kg and a gross weight of 3,232 kg for the six-seat Long Range, and Euro NCAP recorded 2,660 kg for the Deluxe Long Range it tested. Adaptive air suspension, a hidden-handle body, 22-inch wheels and a sport mode called Extreme are listed in Samelet's specification, and the Czech dealer quotes a drag coefficient of 0.345, which is average for an SUV this tall and boxy. The Czech dealer also lists Vehicle-to-Load output of about 3.5 kW, enough to run external appliances from the battery.

At 5,209 mm long, 2,010 mm wide and 1,713 mm tall on a 3,110 mm wheelbase, the E-HS9 is a full-size SUV in the class of the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Range Rover Electric. The 120 kWh Long Range is a six-seater with captain's chairs in the middle row, and Samelet lists heated and ventilated seats in the second row and an electrically folding third row. The E-HS9 can be ordered as a six- or seven-seater in Europe according to Hedin Automotive. Samelet gives 255 litres of boot space with the third row in place and 796 litres with the seats folded. Hedin Automotive and the EV Database quote 438 to 1,814 litres for five-seat cars, so the figure depends on the seating layout. The Czech dealer also lists a 75-litre front trunk, which is useful for charging cables.

Charging & Battery
The E-HS9 is built on a 400-volt architecture, which is the reason its charging figures are modest next to newer 800-volt rivals. The Czech dealer quotes a DC peak of up to 140 kW, the EV Database lists 130 kW for the 120 kWh car, and Samelet states about 40 minutes for 20-80%. On AC, the 11 kW on-board charger takes about 5.5 hours from 20% to 80% according to Samelet. The importers quote 120 kWh as the nominal (gross) capacity; the EV Database lists about 112 kWh usable and the Belgian database autotijd.be about 111 kWh, so treat the usable figure as unofficial. The Long Range pack gives up to 515 km on the WLTP cycle, while the 99 kWh car is rated at 465 km and the 84 kWh car at 396 km, according to Hedin Automotive. Official WLTP ranges are laboratory values, and Samelet itself warns that real range varies with speed, driving style and conditions.
A 2026 independent test summary on the Czech site autohled.cz notes that the 400-volt system limits DC charging power and that real range does not match the battery size particularly well for a car this large. Those are the two numbers a buyer should weigh against the sticker: a 120 kWh pack that charges at most at 140 kW and a car that weighs 2.7 tonnes.
| BATTERY | 120 kWh gross (Long Range), 99 kWh, 84 kWh; 400 V |
|---|---|
| AC CHARGING | 11 kW; about 5.5 h for 20-80% (Samelet) |
| DC FAST CHARGING | Up to 140 kW (130 kW per EV Database) |
| DC 20-80% TIME | About 40 min (Samelet) |
| V2L | About 3.5 kW |
Design & Interior
The E-HS9 is deliberately a statement. The grille is a tall wall of vertical chrome slats framed by slim LED daytime-running lights, and a standing bonnet ornament sits above it. The rear carries a continuous light signature built from several LED lines, with the model badge below it, and the door mirrors have a sweeping amber indicator blade. Samelet lists full Matrix LED headlights, automatic hidden door handles, folding and de-misting mirrors and a welcome light, and Hedin Automotive says the brake lights contain a distinctive LED pattern. The designer is Giles Taylor, and the styling is often compared with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Inside, the cabin is dominated by three connected screens under a single pane of glass, with a separate touchscreen for the climate controls. Samelet lists walnut wood trim, Nappa leather with diamond stitching, a 16-speaker Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, an electronic fragrance system, heated and ventilated front seats with massage, and a panoramic roof with a sunshade and acoustic glass. The Czech dealer adds a heated steering wheel, power-adjustable memory seats in the first and second rows, an air-quality sensor and LED door sills with a projected Hongqi logo. Hedin Automotive offers a Black Pack for the Netherlands that turns the chrome elements black and fits glossy black 22-inch wheels for €7,495 including VAT.
Technology & Features
The Hongqi app gives owners remote locking, climate pre-conditioning, GPS tracking, battery status and maintenance reminders. Samelet lists voice control, a 3D surround-view camera and an electronically adjustable steering wheel with memory. Hongqi's global site names a 3D showroom and downloadable parameter sheets, but the spec pages it exposes do not list battery, power or range figures, so the data here comes from the importers in Israel, the Czech Republic, Belgium and the Netherlands and from Euro NCAP.
Safety & ADAS
Euro NCAP tested the E-HS9 in 2025 in Deluxe Long Range four-wheel-drive form and awarded five stars. It scored 82% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child occupant protection and 82% for safety assist. The assessors noted good or adequate protection in the frontal offset test but said structures in the dashboard were thought to present a risk of injury, and they found a small airbag tear after the test, which Hongqi addressed with quality-control measures at its factory and suppliers. Samelet lists autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot detection, lane-departure prevention, adaptive cruise control, a driver-fatigue warning, door-opening warning, parking sensors and 360-degree cameras with a 3D view. Airbag counts differ between listings, so check the local specification.

Pricing & Availability
The prices below were read on 7 October 2026. In Israel, the importer Samelet Group lists the Exclusive LR 6S at NIS 499,000 on its Hongqi website. The same figure was reported when Samelet introduced the 120 kWh version in November 2023. At the ECB rate of 3.0482 shekels to the dollar that is about $163,700. In the Czech Republic the authorised dealer Auto Anex Decin lists the Long Range 120 kWh at CZK 2,999,000 including VAT (about $138,500 at 21.657 koruna to the dollar). The same dealer shows a promotional price of CZK 2,399,000 including VAT (about $110,800), or CZK 1,982,645 without VAT, on a car it holds in stock, with a five-year vehicle warranty (100,000 km) and an eight-year battery warranty. That is a limited stock offer, not the list price.
The E-HS9 first launched in Norway in October 2021 and in Israel on 6 April 2022, when Samelet introduced Hongqi to the market. The 120 kWh Long Range followed: Sweden listed it in May 2023 and Israel in November 2023, when the Israeli outlet Queen of the Road reported about 170 E-HS9 cars delivered locally. In the Netherlands and Belgium the car is handled by Hedin Automotive, whose pages quote WLTP ranges of 465 km and 515 km (Netherlands) and 396, 465 and 515 km (Belgium) but do not publish a price. We could not confirm any euro list price for either country with an importer price list, so none is quoted here.
How It Compares
These rivals come from different markets and test cycles, so the table is a value contrast rather than a like-for-like ranking. The closest on paper is the Range Rover Electric, which also makes 405 kW (542 hp), lists a US price of $138,000 and quotes up to 600 km WLTP, while the E-HS9's Czech list price converts to a similar dollar amount. The Cadillac Escalade IQ has 680 hp and a 205 kWh battery for $130,300 in the US, but its range of 465 miles is an EPA figure for the US market. The NIO ES9 shows how much cheaper a Chinese six-seat flagship is at home, at about $74,300 and 697 hp, but it is a China-market car and its 620 km is a CLTC figure that is far more generous than WLTP.
- Plenty of space: 5,209 mm long, 3,110 mm wheelbase and six captain-style seats in the Long Range, with a 75 L front trunk
- Strong straight-line performance: 405 kW (544 hp), 750 Nm and 0-100 km/h in 4.9 seconds, with up to 515 km WLTP from the 120 kWh pack
- Euro NCAP five stars in 2025 (82% adult, 87% child, 82% safety assist), 5-year vehicle warranty in the Czech Republic and Israel
- Charging is slow for a 120 kWh pack: a 400-volt system, up to 140 kW DC and about 40 minutes for 20-80%
- Heavy at 2,702 kg, with only 255 L of boot space when all three rows are in use, and Euro NCAP flagged dashboard structures as an injury risk
The E-HS9 is a distinctive, spacious and quick electric luxury SUV, and the 120 kWh Long Range now gives it a usable 515 km on the WLTP cycle. The five-star Euro NCAP result and a Czech list price close to the Range Rover Electric's US price make a reasonable case, and the dealer's stock-car promotion at CZK 2,399,000 strengthens it. It is held back by a 400-volt charging system that makes long trips slower than in newer rivals and by a weight of 2.7 tonnes. Buyers who value space, comfort and an unusual badge over charging speed should put it on the shortlist.
