The all-new Li Auto L9 is the brand's six-seat range-extender flagship, and it sits a clear step above the new five-seat L8. Launched in China in May 2026, this second-generation L9 brings a much bigger battery, in-house computing and genuinely cutting-edge chassis tech — especially in the top Livis trim. The L9 offers up to 420 km of electric-only range (CLTC) and a colossal 1,650 km combined, with a dual-motor system making 420 kW (563 hp) for a 4.9-second 0–100 km/h. The Livis adds a world-first 800V fully-active suspension, a full by-wire chassis and dual Mach M100 chips for 2,560 TOPS of AI compute. Priced at ¥509,800 (about $74,000) — after a ¥50,000 pre-launch price cut — it's a true tech tour de force.
Performance & Specs
The L9 is a range-extender (REV): a Li Auto in-house third-generation 1.5-litre turbo engine acts as a generator (around 112 kW / 150 hp), while electric motors drive all four wheels. The combined system makes 420 kW (563 hp) and 710 Nm, good for a 0–100 km/h of 4.9 seconds and a top speed of around 200 km/h — brisk for a near-2.8-tonne, six-seat luxury SUV. The real efficiency story is the range: a big 72.7 kWh battery delivers up to 420 km of electric range (CLTC), and the generator extends total range to roughly 1,650 km, with fuel use of about 6.3 L/100 km once the battery is depleted. The flagship Livis trim layers on a remarkable chassis — more on that below.

Dimensions & Practicality

| Seating | 6 (2+2+2) |
This is a big, imposing luxury SUV. At 5,255 mm long on a 3,125 mm wheelbase, the L9 is larger in every dimension than before, and its six-seat 2+2+2 layout is designed so all three rows can carry adults in comfort — not just a token third row. The second-row captain's chairs get quilted leather, powered adjustment and leg rests, while the cabin is awash with cream leather and a high, lounge-like centre console with its own rear climate panel. Boot space behind the third row is usable and expands hugely when the rear seats fold. It rides on large 22-inch wheels, and curb weight is around 2,755–2,835 kg. As a family flagship, space and comfort are the whole point.

Charging & Battery
The L9's 72.7 kWh ternary (NMC) battery, supplied by CATL, is a big leap over the old L9's roughly 44.5 kWh pack — and it now supports 5C supercharging, adding 10–80% in around 10 minutes at up to ~420 kW on a compatible charger. That nearly doubles the EV range to 420 km, enough for most daily driving on electricity alone. And because it's a range-extender, longer journeys are effortless: the 1.5-litre engine runs as a generator, and a quick splash of fuel into the tank takes total range to about 1,650 km. It's the best of both worlds — EV running for the commute, no charging stops on a road trip.
| BATTERY | 72.7 kWh ternary (NMC, CATL) |
|---|---|
| ELECTRIC RANGE | 420 km CLTC |
| FAST CHARGING | 5C, 10-80% in ~10 min (~420 kW) |
| RANGE EXTENDER | 1.5L turbo generator + fuel tank |
Design & Interior
The new L9 grows up visually, with a cleaner, more upright luxury-SUV silhouette, flush door handles, a full-width front light bar and a connected rear light strip, available in elegant two-tone finishes. Inside is where Li Auto excels: the cabin is trimmed in soft cream leather with a high, flowing centre console, ambient lighting and that lounge-like feel the brand is famous for. The six-seat layout gives middle-row passengers business-class captain's chairs with massage, ventilation and leg rests, while the Livis adds four powered doors, "Pods" headrest speakers built into the seats and a motorized rear-entertainment screen with gesture control. A smart refrigerator sits between the front seats. It feels every bit the ¥500,000 flagship.
Technology & Features
The dashboard is dominated by a 29-inch 6K panoramic display, backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 cockpit chip and a 9.3.6 surround-sound system rated up to 5,440W. The big story is driver assistance: the Livis uses two in-house Mach M100 chips for 2,560 TOPS of compute (the Ultra has one chip, 1,280 TOPS), fed by four LiDAR units and a full camera suite for Li Auto's VLA-based navigation-assisted driving across highway, urban, parking and summon scenarios — with the software included free for life. It's one of the most advanced tech packages in any production SUV.
Safety & ADAS
The L9 Livis carries a formidable sensor and compute suite: four LiDAR units (one long-range forward plus three solid-state side units for 360-degree coverage), multiple cameras and dual Mach M100 chips delivering 2,560 TOPS for VLA navigation-assisted driving. The Livis also gains electro-mechanical braking (EMB) for faster, more precise stops, working alongside the rear-wheel steering and 800V active suspension to keep this big SUV stable and composed.
| ADAS LEVEL | L2+ (VLA, up to 2,560 TOPS) |

Pricing & Availability
The all-new Li Auto L9 launched in China on May 15, 2026, in two trims: Ultra at ¥459,800 (~$66,600) and the flagship Livis at ¥509,800 (~$74,000). Notably, Li Auto cut the Livis price by ¥50,000 from its ¥559,800 pre-sale figure at launch — a clear sign of how competitive China's premium-SUV market has become. Deliveries began almost immediately, and around 90% of buyers reportedly choose the Livis. It's a China-market model for now, with an international version expected later in 2026.
How It Compares
The L9 plays in China's fiercely contested premium six-seat SUV class. The Huawei-backed AITO M9 is the best-seller it most directly targets, while the Zeekr 9X and Denza N9 are far more powerful with tri-motor setups and sub-4-second sprints. The L9 isn't the quickest here, but it counters with Li Auto's class-leading family comfort, the longest combined range, and the Livis trim's genuinely industry-first 800V active suspension and full by-wire chassis. For buyers who prioritise serene comfort, space and bleeding-edge tech over outright pace, it's a compelling flagship.
- Industry-first 800V active suspension and full by-wire chassis (Livis)
- Up to 420 km EV range and 1,650 km combined
- Dual Mach M100 chips for 2,560 TOPS and four LiDAR
- Sumptuous six-seat cabin with captain's chairs and fridge
- Slower than tri-motor rivals like the Zeekr 9X
- The best tech is reserved for the pricier Livis trim
- China-only for now; heavy at ~2.8 tonnes
The all-new Li Auto L9 is a statement flagship. It takes everything that made Li Auto's six-seat SUVs so popular — serene comfort, family-friendly space, no range anxiety thanks to the range-extender setup — and adds genuinely groundbreaking tech in the Livis trim, from 800V active suspension and a full by-wire chassis to 2,560 TOPS of in-house compute and four LiDAR. It can't match the tri-motor pace of a Zeekr 9X, and the headline hardware is locked to the pricier Livis, but with up to 1,650 km of combined range and a cabin this luxurious, it's one of the most complete family flagships on sale. At ¥509,800 after a ¥50,000 price cut, it's also keenly priced for what you get.
