Nissan launched the all-new NX8 on 8 April 2026 at dealerships across China, and the response was immediate: over 8,500 orders arrived within the first 30 minutes. Built by Dongfeng Nissan on the proprietary Tianyan Architecture 2.0 platform, the NX8 is a mid-size five-seat SUV available in both pure-electric (BEV) and range-extended (REEV) forms, spanning seven variants from ¥159,900 (~$23,400) to ¥209,900 (~$30,800). A limited-time launch offer dropped the entry price to ¥149,900 (~$21,950) on opening day. BEV trims top out at 650 km CLTC range and 463 kW peak charging; REEV trims reach a combined 1,450 km total range. LiDAR-equipped ADAS powered by Momenta is standard across every variant.

Charging & Battery
The 650 Max and Brand Master Edition BEV trims feature Tianyan Architecture 2.0’s 800V silicon-carbide inverter, enabling a peak DC charging rate of 463 kW — 5C relative to the 81 kWh battery. From 10% to 80% takes just 12 minutes on a compatible ultra-fast charger, or approximately 300 km of additional CLTC range in six minutes of charging. That compares favourably with every direct rival: the Tesla Model Y tops out at 250 kW, the Kia EV6 GT at 240 kW, and the BYD Tang EV at 150 kW. The 73 kWh BEV trims use a 400V / 3C architecture rated at around 219 kW peak, achieving 10–80% in 17 minutes. AC home-charging is supported up to 11 kW on all trims.
| ARCHITECTURE (base BEV) | 400V / 3C (~219 kW peak) |
|---|---|
| ARCHITECTURE (top BEV) | 800V SiC / 5C (463 kW peak) |

Design & Interior
The NX8 adopts a restrained fastback silhouette with flush door handles, slim horizontal LED headlights, and teal-lit wing-mirror accents. The rear is the boldest design statement: a full-width OLED tail bar runs the entire width and spells “NISSAN” in illuminated red lettering, with 25 programmable animation sequences. The “NX8” badge sits on the tailgate below the light bar. Inside, two 15.6-inch touchscreens run Nissan OS 2.0 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip alongside a 10.25-inch digital driver display. The cabin features a panoramic glass roof with electric sunshade, leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel, and central wireless charging pad. The AI voice assistant “Nico” handles voice commands; the system runs in Chinese-language only at launch, with English language support reportedly available via OTA upgrade for export markets. Brand Master Edition tops the lineup with a 25-speaker audio system.
Technology & Features
Every NX8 — including the entry ¥159,900 REEV 150 Pro — ships with a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor as standard. Combined with 28 additional high-perception sensors (cameras, millimetre-wave radar, ultrasonic), the 29-sensor array feeds Momenta’s autonomous-driving algorithms for Highway NOA on motorways and full Urban NOA for city environments. Nissan counts 71 active safety and convenience functions across the full range. Offering LiDAR on every trim — rather than as a premium-only option — directly challenges BYD’s “God’s Eye” strategy of democratising advanced ADAS. OTA software updates are supported across all systems.
Safety & ADAS
The NX8’s 29-sensor perception stack enables Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) with stop-and-go, Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), Rear Cross-Traffic Avoidance, 360-degree surround-view camera, and both Highway and Urban Navigation-on-Autopilot. The urban NOA capability — typically reserved for LiDAR-equipped premium variants in other brands — is standard across all seven NX8 trims. The Tianyan 2.0 platform incorporates a high-strength steel-and-aluminium body shell, full curtain airbags, and BYD-comparable LFP thermal management for the battery pack.

Pricing & Availability
The NX8 officially launched on 8 April 2026 with a limited-time introductory price of ¥149,900 (~$21,950) on opening day. Standard list prices run ¥159,900–209,900 (~$23,400–$30,800) across the seven-trim range. BEV deliveries are already underway; REEV variants are scheduled for delivery from late May 2026. China is the sole market at launch, with Dongfeng Nissan expected to announce international availability during late 2026. The NX8 secured over 8,500 orders within the first 30 minutes on sale — a strong indication of market confidence in the dual BEV/REEV strategy. Warranty terms have not yet been officially confirmed for all markets.
How It Compares
The NX8 BEV 650 Max’s 463 kW peak charge rate is genuinely class-leading among mid-size SUVs in China: it is nearly double the Tesla Model Y’s 250 kW, three times the BYD Tang EV’s ~150 kW, and twice the Seres SF7’s 215 kW. At $27,800 it undercuts the BYD Tang EV by ~$3,200 and the Tesla Model Y by ~$5,700 while delivering more CLTC range than either. The Tang counters with AWD and a 7-seat option; the Model Y offers global charging infrastructure via Supercharger. For buyers who need the absolute longest practical range in China, the REEV 310 Max at $26,300 offers 1,450 km combined with no charging-infrastructure anxiety — and that product has no direct equivalent in the segment.
- 463 kW / 5C charging on 800V BEV trims — fastest in the mid-size SUV segment
- REEV 310 Max covers 1,450 km on a full tank & charge — effectively zero range anxiety
- LiDAR ADAS with Highway & Urban NOA standard on all seven trims including entry
- Snapdragon 8295P + Nissan OS 2.0 + 63″ AR HUD at a mid-market price point
- Dual BEV/REEV strategy covers both pure-EV and long-range daily-driving use cases
- No AWD option on any trim — RWD only for the BEV and REEV lineup
- BEV 580 trims use 400V / 3C architecture — 17-min charge vs 12 min for top BEV
- Currently China-only — international launch timing unconfirmed
- REEV deliveries delayed until late May 2026 — BEV-only at initial launch
The Nissan NX8 is one of the most strategically interesting new Chinese EVs of 2026. In a single nameplate it answers the two biggest objections to EVs — charging speed and range anxiety — with industry-leading answers: 463 kW peak DC charging for city-centric BEV buyers, and 1,450 km of combined REEV range for those who regularly drive beyond the charging network. Adding LiDAR-equipped Highway and Urban NOA across every trim, including the ¥159,900 entry, signals that Nissan is willing to use Chinese-market standards rather than global ones to compete. The 773-litre boot, 95-litre frunk, panoramic glass roof and 19-inch alloys complete the package on the ergonomic side. Whether the NX8 can sustain its 8,500-order opening against BYD, Seres, and Li Auto over the next 12 months will depend on whether Nissan’s brand equity still carries weight with Chinese buyers — but the technical specification leaves very little room for criticism.
