Xiaomi just launched a brand-new sub-brand, and it is not another SU7 or YU7 variant. Sky Nomad is the company's first dedicated range-extended EV lineup, built to go straight after Li Auto's family-hauler SUVs. The N90 is the larger of two debut models revealed on July 30, 2026, and shown again at the Chengdu Auto Show on August 21, 2026. It is a full-size, three-row EREV SUV with a 76 kWh battery, a 1.5-liter range-extender engine that only ever spins a generator, and a flagship trim that undercuts the Li Auto L8 and AITO M8 on price while roughly matching or beating their headline range numbers. Xiaomi is betting that its phone-and-appliance ecosystem, HyperOS integration, and aggressive pricing can do to the premium family-SUV segment what the SU7 did to sport sedans.
Performance & Specs
The N90 Max, the only priced trim so far, pairs a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder range-extender engine (sourced from Changan subsidiary Dongan, 112 kW / 150 hp) with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup rated at 310 kW (416 hp) combined โ a 210 kW rear motor plus a 100 kW front motor. The gasoline engine never drives the wheels directly; it exists purely to spin a generator and top up the 76 kWh ternary-lithium battery pack (supplied by CALB) on longer trips. Xiaomi quotes a 0-100 km/h time of 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h, brisk for a nearly 5.3-metre, seven-seat family SUV. Peak torque has not been officially disclosed by Xiaomi as of this writing, so treat any specific torque figure circulating online as unconfirmed. DC fast charging takes the battery from 20-80% in about 18 minutes, and a 15-minute top-up is claimed to add roughly 285 km of range. Worth noting: an earlier "up to 505 km" EV-range figure attached to the Sky Nomad launch actually belongs to the smaller N70 Max sibling, not the N90 โ the bigger, heavier N90 Max is rated at 464 km CLTC on electric power alone.

At 5,285 mm long on a 3,080 mm wheelbase, the N90 is a genuinely large three-row SUV, and Xiaomi says it sized the N90 specifically to sit above the Li Auto L9 in interior volume. The second-row seats can rotate to face the third row, and Xiaomi offers an optional pop-up roof tent and roof bed plank aimed at China's camping and road-trip market โ which also explains why some marketing images show a taller roofline around 1,925 mm instead of the standard 1,825 mm. Boot space is rated at 577 litres with all three rows in place, expanding to 1,831 litres with the second and third rows folded flat. A 2,760 mm cabin length gives genuinely usable third-row legroom rather than token jump seats, and the standard 2+2+3 layout includes second-row captain's chairs on the N90 Max.

Charging & Battery
The N90 Max's 76 kWh ternary-lithium battery pack is supplied by CALB, and the range-extender engine's only job is to spin a generator that tops the pack up on longer trips rather than ever driving the wheels directly. Xiaomi has not published the peak DC charging rate, but the automaker quotes a 20-80% DC fast-charge time of about 18 minutes, and a 15-minute splash charge is claimed to add roughly 285 km of range. AC charging specifications have not yet been disclosed.

Design & Interior
Several outlets covering the reveal noted a visual family resemblance to boxy British luxury SUVs, with a tall, slab-sided greenhouse, a wide vertical grille-like front fascia (there is no combustion engine to feed, so it largely houses sensors and cooling ducts), and flush door handles. Xiaomi leaned into a "living room on wheels" pitch for the interior rather than a sporty one: both front seats can rotate up to 180 degrees so occupants can face each other or the middle row when the car is parked, and Xiaomi offers an optional fold-out table between the seats for that use case. The N90 Max's cabin gets 16-point zero-gravity massage seats, and Xiaomi is pushing a genuinely premium audio setup for the segment โ a 25-speaker system with roughly 4,890 W of amplification and 7.1.4 surround processing, well beyond what most EREV family SUVs in this price bracket offer.
Materials and trim finishes have not been fully itemized in English-language coverage yet, but Xiaomi's own product photography shows a mix of soft-touch upper dash surfaces, a large centre console bridge, and a minimalist digital cockpit that leans on Xiaomi's existing HyperOS car interface rather than introducing an entirely new system. The rear doors open to close to a 90-degree angle to ease child-seat access and third-row entry, a detail Xiaomi specifically called out during the reveal.
Technology & Features
The N90's driver-assistance hardware is built around a 4nm Nvidia Thor chip with roughly 700 TOPS of compute, paired with a standard roof-mounted LiDAR unit โ Xiaomi is not reserving LiDAR for a range-topping trim the way several rivals do. That hardware runs Xiaomi HAD, the company's in-house assisted-driving software stack, for highway and urban driving assistance. The car also gets dual 5G and Wi-Fi connectivity for a more stable always-on link than single-modem systems, useful for over-the-air updates and in-car streaming on long family road trips.
Safety & ADAS
Safety hardware includes 12 airbags backed by nine collision sensors, and Xiaomi says roughly 90.4% of the body structure uses high-strength steel and aluminum. Wading depth is rated at 750 mm, a figure more commonly quoted for off-roaders than family SUVs, and the published braking figure of 38.57 metres from 100 km/h to a stop is competitive for the class.

N90 Max is the only fully priced and specced trim so far. Xiaomi has confirmed lower-priced N90 trims are coming but hasn't published their specs or pricing yet; expected at the official September 2026 launch.
Pricing & Availability
Xiaomi opened pre-sales for the Sky Nomad N90 Max at 299,900 yuan (roughly $44,300) on July 30, 2026, alongside the smaller N70 Max sibling at 259,900 yuan (roughly $38,400). Those are presale figures, not final confirmed retail prices, and Xiaomi has said additional N90 Pro and base trims will follow with their own pricing. The official on-sale launch with finalized pricing across the range is set for September 2026, and cars have reportedly already begun reaching dealer showrooms in China ahead of that date. As of August 2026, Xiaomi has not announced any export markets for Sky Nomad, so this is a China-only launch for now.
How It Compares
The Li Auto L8 costs nearly $6,000 more than the N90 Max and offers slightly more power (449 hp vs. 416 hp), but a lower quoted combined range โ 1,315 km vs. the N90's 1,705 km โ exactly the comparison Xiaomi wants buyers to make. The AITO M8 is over $11,000 more expensive and considerably less powerful on paper, though AITO's Huawei-backed software ecosystem has a longer market track record than Xiaomi's brand-new Sky Nomad line. The closest price match in our own catalog is the AVATR 07 REV, about $3,000 cheaper than the N90 Max, but it trails in both horsepower and total range.
- Undercuts Li Auto and AITO's large-SUV EREVs by thousands of dollars while matching or beating their power and combined range
- Standard LiDAR and a 700-TOPS Nvidia Thor chip across the range rather than gated behind a top trim
- Genuinely large 2+2+3 cabin with rotating seats, a 1,831 L max cargo hold, and an optional camping roof tent
- Only the range-topping N90 Max is priced and specced so far; buyers wanting a cheaper trim must wait for the September 2026 launch
- Brand-new sub-brand with zero ownership or reliability track record, and no export market announced as of August 2026
The Sky Nomad N90 Max is a genuinely aggressive opening shot at Li Auto's home turf: a bigger, more powerful, and cheaper three-row EREV SUV with hardware โ standard LiDAR, a 700-TOPS compute platform โ that undercuts segment leaders on both spec sheet and price. The catch is that this is a presale announcement from a brand nobody has actually owned a car from yet, with cheaper trims still unpriced heading into the real September 2026 launch. For buyers who trust Xiaomi's execution after the SU7 and YU7, and who don't need the car until autumn anyway, the N90 Max looks like one of the sharper value plays in China's family-SUV segment this year.
