The Nissan NX8 is the third model in Dongfeng-Nissan's new "N Series," and it's the most ambitious yet — a mid-size SUV offered as either a pure-electric (BEV) or a range-extender (REEV) model, launched in China in April 2026. The electric version manages up to 650 km of range with 800V, 5C ultra-fast charging (10–80% in about 12 minutes), while the range-extender version stretches combined range to a huge 1,450 km. Both come with a roof-mounted LiDAR and Momenta-developed assisted driving, a giant 63-inch AR head-up display and up to 335 hp, from just ~$23,400. It's a serious statement of intent from Nissan in China, and it drew more than 8,000 orders in its first half-hour on sale.
Performance & Specs
Both powertrains are rear-driven, built on Dongfeng's Tianyan 2.0 architecture. The BEV comes with a 215 kW (288 hp) rear motor (73 kWh LFP, 400V, 580 km) or a stronger 250 kW (335 hp) version (81 kWh, 800V, 650 km), with 0–100 km/h of 7.1 or 6.7 seconds. The REEV pairs a 195 kW (261 hp) rear motor with a 1.5-litre turbo generator (109 kW / 146 hp) that only makes electricity, for 150–310 km of electric range and up to 1,450 km combined at about 4.5 L/100 km. Torque is 310 Nm across the board. It's a smooth, refined SUV either way; the BEV is the sharper drive, while the REEV trades a little polish for genuinely limitless range. Building both on a rear-drive platform gives the NX8 a more balanced, planted feel than the front-drive layouts common in this class, even if outright pace is modest.

At 4,870 mm long on a 2,917 mm wheelbase, the NX8 is a roomy mid-size SUV with a modern, clean-surfaced design and a full-width OLED tail-light bar. Nissan leans hard on comfort: there are zero-gravity front seats, a built-in fridge, a panoramic roof and a 25-speaker, 2,000-watt sound system on higher trims, plus vehicle-to-load power output. The cabin is dominated by dual 15.6-inch screens and that enormous 63-inch AR head-up display, giving it a genuinely high-tech feel. Nissan advertises 71 standard convenience and safety features across the range, so even entry cars are generously equipped for the price.

Charging & Battery
The pure-electric NX8 is the technical highlight. The 73 kWh version uses a 400V system with 3C charging (10–80% in about 17 minutes), while the 81 kWh long-range model steps up to an 800V architecture with 5C charging — a 10–80% top-up in around 12 minutes, adding roughly 300 km of range in six minutes at up to about 463 kW. The REEV models carry smaller batteries (21–43 kWh) for 150–310 km of electric range, topped up by the 1.5-litre generator for that 1,450 km combined figure and roughly 4.5 L/100 km on the motorway. All batteries are LFP for durability. Between the fast-charging BEV and the no-limits REEV, the NX8 covers every kind of buyer.

Design & Interior
The NX8 wears a clean, modern crossover design with a full-width connected OLED tail-light bar, slim front lighting and flush door handles — understated but contemporary, and clearly part of Nissan's new N-Series family look alongside the N7 sedan. Inside, the emphasis is squarely on comfort and technology. Nissan fits its trademark zero-gravity front seats, designed to reduce fatigue on long drives, along with a panoramic glass roof, soft-touch materials and, on higher trims, a built-in fridge and a 25-speaker, 2,000-watt audio system. The dual 15.6-inch screens and 63-inch AR head-up display dominate the dashboard, giving the cabin a genuinely premium, high-tech atmosphere that belies the price. It's a thoroughly modern interior that trades the plasticky feel of older Nissans for something that can stand toe-to-toe with China's best.
Technology & ADAS
Driver assistance is a genuine highlight for the price. The NX8 comes with a roof-mounted LiDAR, 29 perception sensors and an end-to-end system co-developed with Momenta, one of China's top ADAS specialists, supporting highway and urban navigation assist and automated parking. The cabin runs Nissan OS 2.0 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip across dual 15.6-inch displays, a 10.25-inch driver cluster and the standout 63-inch AR head-up display. Getting LiDAR-based assisted driving and this much screen real estate in a sub-$25,000 SUV is exactly the kind of value that has made Chinese-market EVs so competitive — and it's now wearing a Nissan badge.

Pricing & Availability
The Nissan NX8 launched in China on 8 April 2026, with seven trims (four BEV and three REEV) spanning roughly ¥159,900 to ¥209,900 (about $23,400 to $30,700), with limited-time launch pricing from as low as ¥149,900. It racked up over 8,000 orders in the first half-hour. It's a China-market model built by Dongfeng-Nissan; no European or North American launch has been confirmed. For the money, few rivals offer this combination of dual powertrains, 800V charging and standard LiDAR — it's another sign Nissan's China venture has found its feet.
How It Compares
The NX8's most direct rival is the Deepal S07, which also offers both BEV and REEV powertrains at a similar price — but the Nissan out-ranges it on the combined REEV figure (1,450 vs 1,385 km) and matches it on BEV range while adding a standard LiDAR. The BYD Song Ultra and Song Plus EV are strong pure-electric value picks but don't offer a range-extender option or the NX8's 800V charging. With dual powertrains, LiDAR and a 63-inch AR-HUD from ~$23,400, the NX8 is one of the best-value tech-loaded family SUVs around.
- Choice of 650 km BEV (800V) or 1,450 km REEV
- Standard roof LiDAR + Momenta L2+ assisted driving
- 800V 5C charging: 10–80% in ~12 min
- Loaded cabin: 63" AR-HUD, zero-gravity seats, from ~$23,400
- Rear-wheel drive only (no AWD reported)
- Heavy; 400V base trims charge slower than the 800V cars
- China-only for now (no confirmed export)
- Some quoted charging-power figures are single-sourced
The Nissan NX8 shows just how far Dongfeng-Nissan has come. By offering both a fast-charging 800V electric version (up to 650 km) and a range-extender good for 1,450 km combined, it lets buyers pick their own path to electrification — and it backs that flexibility with genuinely flagship tech: a roof LiDAR, Momenta-developed L2+ assisted driving, a 63-inch AR head-up display and Nissan's trademark comfort seats. That it all starts around $23,400 is the remarkable part; getting LiDAR and 800V charging at this price would have been unthinkable a couple of years ago. It's rear-drive only and heavy, but as a do-everything, tech-loaded family SUV, the NX8 is one of Nissan's most convincing products in China yet.
