The mid-size electric sedan segment is notoriously difficult to disrupt, but the 2026 Avatr 06 REV arrives with a mathematical proposition that is impossible to ignore. Born from a heavyweight joint venture between Changan Automobile, battery giant CATL, and technology powerhouse Huawei, this extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) pairs a 310-horsepower rear-wheel-drive architecture with an astonishing 1,190 km of total driving range. More importantly, it brings these flagship-level specifications to the market at a highly disruptive starting price of just $28,750.
Historically, buyers seeking the smooth, silent power delivery of an electric vehicle had to accept the inherent compromises of charging infrastructure and range anxiety. The HUAWEI 06 REV eliminates that compromise entirely. By utilizing Avatr’s new "Kunlun" extended-range architecture, it operates as a pure electric vehicle for daily commuting while keeping a turbocharged internal combustion engine in reserve strictly as a generator. It is a sophisticated bridge between the combustion past and the electric future, packaged in a sleek, technology-dense sedan that undercuts its primary competitors by thousands of dollars.
Performance & Specs
The engineering philosophy behind the 06 REV centers on decoupling the combustion engine from the wheels entirely. The vehicle is propelled exclusively by its electric traction motor, ensuring the instantaneous torque and seamless acceleration characteristic of a premium battery-electric vehicle, while the gasoline engine serves only to replenish the battery pack.
- POWERTRAIN TYPE: EREV (Extended-Range Electric Vehicle)
- RANGE EXTENDER: 1.5-liter Turbocharged Inline-4 — 115 kW (154 hp) generator
- MOTOR (traction): Permanent Magnet Synchronous — 310 hp (231 kW) — 367 N·m — drives rear wheels
- TOTAL SYSTEM OUTPUT: 310 hp (231 kW) — 367 N·m combined torque
- BATTERY: 31.7 kWh — Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) — CATL Freevoy
- ELECTRIC-ONLY RANGE: 230 km (CLTC)
- COMBINED RANGE: 1,190 km (CLTC)
- 0-100 km/h: 6.6 seconds
- DRIVETRAIN: Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD)
The traction motor mounted on the rear axle delivers a robust 310 horsepower and 367 N·m of torque, propelling the sedan from a standstill to 100 km/h in a brisk 6.6 seconds. Power is drawn from a 31.7 kWh Freevoy battery pack supplied by CATL. This specific battery chemistry was engineered specifically for hybrid and EREV applications.
When the battery state of charge drops, the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine silently awakens. Rated at 115 kW, this generator operates at its peak thermal efficiency to convert unleaded fuel into electrical energy. Because it never drives the wheels directly, it avoids the inefficient RPM fluctuations of a traditional transmission. The result is a dedicated electric-only range of 230 km — more than enough to cover a week of average urban commuting — and a massive 1,190 km total range when starting with a full battery and a full tank of fuel.
Design & Interior
Visually, The 06 REV commands a significant presence on the road. Measuring 4,855 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,450 mm in height, its footprint is notably larger and wider than the standard mid-size electric sedans that dominate the global market. The 1,960 mm width is particularly striking, giving the vehicle a planted, aggressive stance that translates to superior shoulder room inside the cabin.
The exterior design language favors aerodynamic efficiency without resorting to the featureless, soap-bar aesthetics common in the EV sector. Flush door handles, a tapering roofline, and carefully sculpted air curtains around the front fascia contribute to a low drag coefficient, essential for maximizing the vehicle's electric range. The long 2,940 mm wheelbase pushes the wheels to the absolute corners of the chassis, minimizing overhangs and maximizing interior volume.
Inside the cabin, the joint venture’s premium aspirations are immediately apparent. The wide architecture allows for a spacious five-seat configuration where rear passengers benefit from generous legroom. Materials feel deliberately chosen to rival established luxury marques, moving away from stark minimalism toward a warmer, more inviting environment. The dashboard is dominated by expansive digital interfaces, seamlessly integrated to avoid the tacked-on tablet look, while acoustic glass and extensive sound deadening isolate occupants from the outside world.
Technology & Features
With Huawei as a core partner, the technological suite in the HUAWEI 06 REV is nothing short of cutting-edge. The centerpiece of the vehicle's electronic architecture is the Huawei Qiankun ADS smart driving system, which moved to ADS 4 on the Elite trim added in November 2025 (the entry trim uses the LiDAR-free ADS SE). This is not a basic adaptive cruise control setup; it is a comprehensive, multi-sensor autonomous driving stack designed to handle complex urban environments and high-speed highway navigation.
The hardware underpinning the LiDAR-equipped Qiankun ADS includes a state-of-the-art 192-channel LiDAR unit mounted prominently to scan the road ahead. This high-resolution laser radar works in concert with a network of high-definition cameras and millimeter-wave radars to build a real-time, 3D map of the vehicle's surroundings. The 192-channel specification is particularly noteworthy, offering significantly higher point-cloud density than the 96- or 128-channel units found on older luxury vehicles, allowing the system to identify small debris, pedestrians, and irregular obstacles at greater distances and in poor weather conditions.
Driving Experience
Behind the wheel, The 06 REV behaves exactly like a premium battery-electric vehicle. Because the traction motor is the sole source of propulsion, acceleration is perfectly linear. There are no gear shifts, no hesitation, and no torque interruptions. The rear-wheel-drive configuration inherently improves driving dynamics, separating the steering duties at the front wheels from the power delivery at the rear, resulting in a balanced, engaging steering feel through sweeping corners.
The integration of the 1.5-liter range extender is masterfully executed. In many older plug-in hybrids, the transition from electric to combustion power is accompanied by a harsh vibration and a sudden influx of engine noise. In the HUAWEI 06 REV, the generator is so heavily isolated and operates at such consistent, optimized RPMs that its activation is nearly imperceptible from the driver's seat. You simply notice the battery percentage stabilizing on the digital cluster while the total range calculation stretches out over a thousand kilometers.
The suspension tuning leans toward grand touring comfort rather than track-day stiffness. The wide track and long wheelbase provide excellent high-speed stability, absorbing highway expansion joints and urban potholes with a damped, sophisticated thud. It is a vehicle designed to cross continents in a single stint, minimizing driver fatigue through excellent NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) suppression and supportive seating.
Pricing & Availability
The 06 REV launched on 19 April 2025 with a starting price of CNY 209,900 (approximately $28,750) for the base EREV configuration, below the CNY 215,900 (approx. $29,750) announced at pre-sales in March 2025 — a clear signal of the fierce price war currently defining the new energy vehicle sector. Two EREV variants were offered at launch, at CNY 209,900 and CNY 239,900 (approx. $32,900), and the battery-electric 06 starts at CNY 219,900. In November 2025 Avatr added an Elite trim, priced at CNY 219,900 (approx. $30,100) for the EREV, which brings standard 192-line LiDAR, Huawei Qiankun ADS 4 and the HarmonySpace 5 cockpit.
Availability is currently focused on the Chinese domestic market, where the 06 has been on sale since its April 2025 launch. While the HUAWEI 06 REV is sold as a left-hand-drive model, Avatr’s broader corporate strategy points toward rapid global expansion. The brand delivered over 73,000 vehicles in 2024 and aims for 400,000 annual global sales by 2027. With the company recently rolling out right-hand-drive versions of its other SUVs for markets like Thailand, international availability for this sedan could follow in subsequent production cycles.
