The 2026 BYD Fangchengbao Formula S is the first sedan from BYD's Fangchengbao sub-brand, which until now was known for the Leopard (Bao) off-roaders and the Tai (Titanium) SUVs. It went on sale in China on September 16, 2026, starting at CNY 189,900 (about $28,300), and it arrives with a strong spec sheet for the money. Every variant runs BYD's second-generation Blade Battery with flash charging, the long-range rear-drive sedan is rated at up to 900 km on the CLTC cycle, and the dual-motor AWD version makes 490 kW (666 PS, about 657 hp) and covers 0–100 km/h in a claimed 3.6 seconds. The LiDAR-equipped God's Eye B driver-assistance suite is standard across the range, and a magnetorheological DiSus-M suspension is offered at the same price as the air-suspension option on the same trim. The lineup is split into the Formula S sedan and the Formula S GT shooting brake, and this article covers both, with the sedan as the lead car.
Performance & Specs
Three powertrains are offered. The entry rear-drive sedan uses a single rear motor rated at 245 kW (329 hp), the long-range rear-drive cars step up to 300 kW (402 hp), and the AWD versions pair a 190 kW front motor with a 300 kW rear motor for 490 kW combined (666 PS, about 657 hp). BYD's launch material quotes 5.8 seconds to 100 km/h for the rear-drive cars and 3.6 seconds for AWD, and the ministry type-approval filing lists a 240 km/h top speed. BYD's launch material does not list a torque figure, so none is quoted here. The 3.6-second claim is genuinely quick for a car that starts under $36,000 in AWD form, and the Formula S GT shares the same dual-motor hardware. The showroom car in the source video was described by the reviewer as the AWD version.

At 5,060 mm long and 1,967 mm wide, the Formula S is a large sedan, about 63 mm longer than the Xiaomi SU7 (4,997 mm) but with a slightly shorter 2,960 mm wheelbase against the SU7's 3,000 mm. The Formula S GT shooting brake is 5,025 mm long (5,095 mm with the optional tow hook, rated for 500 kg) on the same wheelbase. Height is 1,483 mm on the sedan, while some launch tables and the ministry filing list a lower 1,458 mm for certain GT configurations. Cargo space is generous: the sedan's rear compartment holds 600 L and the GT's 537 L, and both add a 151 L electric front trunk, which the reviewer opened on camera on the showroom sedan. BYD counts 40 storage spots in the sedan cabin. The rear lid opens by touching the diamond emblem, the reviewer showed a small extra storage space for tools, and he quoted a ground clearance of roughly 120 mm, a figure BYD has not confirmed in its launch material. The showroom car rides on 19-inch wheels with 245/45R19 tyres, and the filing lists 19- and 20-inch options.

Charging & Battery
The entry rear-drive sedan carries a 76.744 kWh pack and rates 730 km on the CLTC cycle. Every other variant, including the AWD cars and the whole GT range, uses a 92.093 kWh pack, which gives 900 km in the long-range rear-drive sedan, 850 km in the rear-drive GT, 750 km in the AWD sedan and 730 km in the AWD GT. Those numbers check out on paper, working out to roughly 10 to 12.6 kWh per 100 km on the CLTC cycle, and the AWD cars pay a clear range penalty for their second motor. Flash charging is standard on every trim, and BYD's claim is 10–70% in 5 minutes and 10–97% in 9 minutes on a compatible charger. BYD has not stated a peak charging power, so treat those times as best-case figures at a BYD flash station. The reviewer pointed to two charging ports on the car and estimated 10 to 12 hours on a slow AC charger.

Design & Interior
The Formula S is a low, wide fastback sedan with a long tapering roofline that ends in a short rear lid. Up front, slim LED headlamps sit above a wide lower intake and a small splitter, and a small diamond-pattern emblem marks the nose. At the rear, a wide three-part light signature spans the tail, a diamond emblem sits on the lid, and a black diffuser takes up the bottom of the bumper. A panoramic glass roof with a sunshade is fitted on the showroom car, and the charging flap sits on the rear fender. The showroom car in the video is finished in deep green.
Inside, the cabin uses light cream upholstery against dark trim, with a three-spoke steering wheel, a digital driver display and a central touchscreen above a slim strip of physical climate controls. BYD lists 128-colour wraparound ambient lighting, zero-gravity front seats with heating, ventilation and massage, a 6.9 L compressor cooler and a 20-speaker Devialet audio system. The reviewer also pointed out a 50 W wireless charger, cup holders and USB ports up front, and confirmed the car we saw has heated and ventilated electric seats.
Technology & Features
The central display runs an English-language interface on this export-style showroom car, with menus for vehicle settings, energy, driving assistance, lighting and audio. In the ADAS menu we could see adjustable lane-change style options and toll-gate handling settings, which suggests BYD expects owners to tune how the navigation-assist system behaves. The car also has 360-degree camera views, and the reviewer mentioned wireless phone charging, while the roof-mounted sensor pod above the windscreen is visible in the video. BYD also lists a 26-inch AR-HUD and a customizable cockpit with modular interface points for accessories such as magnetic ambient lights and physical shortcut buttons. Software feel and voice-assistant quality were not something the video could show, so those remain open questions for a hands-on drive.
Safety & ADAS
Every Formula S ships with the LiDAR version of God's Eye B, BYD's higher-end driver-assistance package. The system supports highway navigation assist, urban navigation assist and automated parking, backed by the roof-mounted LiDAR and the surround cameras. As a brand-new launch, the car has no independent crash-test rating or real-world driver-assistance testing yet, so the advanced-driving claims should be read as BYD's own positioning until reviewers put them under load.

Pricing & Availability
The Formula S sedan is sold in five variants from CNY 189,900 to CNY 229,900 (about $28,300 to $34,300), and the Formula S GT comes in four variants from CNY 219,900 to CNY 239,900 (about $32,800 to $35,800), all at roughly 6.7 yuan to the dollar. The DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension, which BYD pitches as supercar-grade hardware, costs no more than the DiSus-A air suspension on the same trim. When pre-orders opened in August, pricing was indicated at CNY 230,000 to 280,000, so the final entry price landed roughly CNY 40,000 (about $6,000) below the pre-order starting figure. The car went on sale in China on September 16, 2026, and the reviewer, who runs an export dealership, said this model cannot be exported yet. Availability outside China is therefore unconfirmed for now.
How It Compares
Against the 2026 Xiaomi SU7 Standard, which starts at CNY 219,900 (about $32,800 at the same exchange rate) with 315 hp and 720 km of CLTC range, the entry Formula S sits CNY 30,000 lower at CNY 189,900 while offering a little more power (329 hp) and a slightly higher range figure (730 km). The Formula S GT is the closer match for the 2026 ZEEKR 007GT, another electric shooting brake that starts around $28,900 at its limited-time price (CNY 193,900, with an official price of CNY 203,900), with 370 kW (496 hp) in base form and up to 880 km of range with the larger battery. The Formula S GT starts higher at CNY 219,900, and on paper the ZEEKR wins on base power and headline range while also offering standard LiDAR. The Formula S GT therefore has to make its case with the 657 hp AWD option, the DiSus-M suspension choice and BYD's 9-minute 10–97% charging claim rather than raw spec-sheet superiority.
- Entry price of about $28,300 for a 5.06 m sedan with LiDAR-based driver assistance as standard
- 657 hp AWD version with a claimed 3.6-second 0–100 km/h run, from about $34,300
- Up to 900 km of CLTC range and BYD's 5-minute 10–70% flash-charging claim
- DiSus-M magnetorheological suspension at the same price as the air-spring option
- CLTC ranges are optimistic, and the AWD cars drop to 750 km (sedan) or 730 km (GT)
- BYD has not published torque or peak charging power figures, and real-world consumption is still untested
- No confirmed export plan, so buyers outside China cannot count on this car
The Formula S is a serious first sedan from Fangchengbao. It undercuts the Xiaomi SU7 at the entry level, adds a 657 hp AWD option and puts a magnetorheological suspension on the price list without a surcharge. The trade-offs are unproven driver-assistance claims, headline ranges that are CLTC-based, and no confirmed path outside China. If you shop in China and want a fast, long-range sedan in the $28,000 to $36,000 bracket, this is one of the most compelling packages on paper. We would wait for independent real-world range and charging tests before treating the best-case numbers as settled.
