Deepal, the new-energy brand of Changan, has put a heavily updated G318 on sale in China. The boxy five-metre SUV launched on 21 August 2026, the first day of the Chengdu auto show, and Deepal markets it as the all-new G318. It is an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV): a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine acts only as a generator for a 35.07 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and two electric motors that drive all four wheels. Official output is 450 PS, which is about 444 hp, with 552 Nm of torque, and the Chinese CLTC cycle gives 200 km on battery alone and more than 1,000 km with a full tank and a full battery. The big change over the earlier G318 is the technology: the Qiankun trims bring Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 Pro driver assistance and the HarmonySpace 5 cabin system, which Deepal pitches as the only boxy SUV in the CNY 200,000 class with both. All three trims are four-wheel drive and carry a limited-time price of CNY 196,800 to CNY 236,800 (about $29,350 to $35,300), against guide prices of CNY 199,800 to CNY 239,800.
Performance & Specs
The G318 is a series-hybrid, so the wheels are driven by electric motors only. Reports on the launch give a combined motor output of 331 kW, which matches the 450 PS (metric horsepower) that Deepal quotes and converts to about 444 hp in imperial terms, together with 552 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5T range extender is rated at 110 kW and 220 Nm and works as a generator, not as a drive source. Deepal describes the 0-100 km/h time as "5-second class", and Autohome lists 5.9 seconds, so the SUV is quick for a vehicle that weighs a lot and has a boxy shape. Four-wheel drive comes from a front and a rear motor, and the car has two differential locks and an ET all-terrain system with terrain modes.
The battery is a 35.07 kWh lithium iron phosphate pack, reported by ifanr, and the Chinese CLTC cycle puts the pure-electric range at 200 km. Divide the battery capacity by that range and the implied consumption is about 17.5 kWh/100 km, a believable figure for a large off-road body, but CLTC is an optimistic test and real-world electric range will be shorter. With a 60-litre fuel tank, Deepal quotes more than 1,000 km of total range, and ifanr reports an official WLTC combined 1.4 L/100 km and 7.3 L/100 km once the battery is depleted and the generator is running the car.

The G318 is a mid-to-large SUV with a unitized body, a square profile and fixed side steps, and it measures 5,125 mm long, 2,025 mm wide and 1,895 mm high on a 2,880 mm wheelbase. The entry Comfort Tianshu trim is slightly smaller, at 5,085 mm by 1,985 mm, according to ifanr. The seating layout is 2+3, so it is a five-seater, and the tyres are 255/65 R18. The boot holds 760 L with the rear seats up and 1,652 L when they are folded, which leaves a flat load floor about 1.8 m long that Deepal shows as a sleeping platform, and there is a 55 L storage box as well.
For rough ground, ifanr reports a maximum ground clearance of 240 mm and a wading depth of 600 mm. The top trim adds single-chamber air suspension with adjustable ride height, CDC adaptive dampers and a comfort package that Deepal calls Magic Carpet. Deepal itself positions the car as 90 percent urban commuting and 10 percent short outdoor trips, so the off-road kit is meant to reassure rather than to define the car.

Charging & Battery
The 35.07 kWh LFP battery can be plugged in, and the launch coverage says the pack charges from 30 to 80 percent in as little as 15 minutes, although the peak DC power in kW and the AC charger rating were not published in the sources we found. The car can also feed power out: ifanr cites up to 6 kW of external output, enough for small appliances, which suits camping. On the road the engine starts as a generator once the battery is low, and with a 60 L tank Deepal quotes more than 1,000 km of range with a full tank and a full battery. In the depleted mode ifanr reports 7.3 L/100 km, so the large body costs fuel once the battery is empty, even though the figure of 1.4 L/100 km looks excellent on paper.

Design & Interior
The G318 keeps the straight-edged box shape of the earlier car, with a flat bonnet, a full-width front light bar, a tall bumper with a skid plate, a rear-mounted spare wheel and roof rails, as the press images show. Deepal says the car goes back to mechanical door handles, and it is offered in five colours: Atomic Grey, Flame Yellow, Starlight Black, Crystal Green and Stellar White. Inside, the press pictures show a wide dashboard with a large central screen next to a separate instrument display, a three-spoke steering wheel and a small gear selector on the centre console, with Dawn Orange, Mocha Brown and Starlight Black trim options. The 15.6-inch central display and the 10.25-inch instrument screen are listed by Autohome, and the cabin has 50 W wireless phone charging.
Technology & Features
The Qiankun trims run Huawei's HarmonySpace 5, built around Huawei's MoLA hybrid large-model architecture, so voice control understands 10 dialects, including Sichuanese and Cantonese mixed with Mandarin, and a phone can hand over apps once it is logged into the same Huawei account. A navigation agent handles vague destination requests, and a three-dimensional vehicle-control desktop puts the car functions on the screen. The entry Comfort Tianshu trim does not get the Huawei software stack and instead uses Changan's own Tianshu navigation-assist driving system. Deepal says it expects to reach about one million cumulative unit sales this year across the brand, which stood at more than 910,000 at the end of July.
Safety & ADAS
Qiankun ADS 5 Pro on the Qiankun trims uses Huawei's WEWA 2.0 architecture with 27 perception hardware units. According to a regional report, that means one in-cabin laser unit, three 4D millimetre-wave radars, eleven cameras and twelve ultrasonic sensors. It supports navigation-assisted driving on highways and in cities, with unprotected left turns and traffic-light handling listed for the city mode, and parking assistance that can find spaces. The laser unit, which Deepal calls Limera, sits behind the windscreen and is said to see a 30 cm obstacle at up to 116 m in low light. A Qiankun CAS collision-prevention system adds 24 active safety functions, and the driver remains responsible at all times, because the system is Level 2 assisted driving.

Pricing & Availability
Deepal announced the limited-time prices at the Chengdu show on 21 August 2026: CNY 196,800 for the four-wheel-drive Comfort Tianshu, CNY 216,800 for the Comfort Qiankun and CNY 236,800 for the Air Suspension Qiankun. The guide prices are CNY 199,800, CNY 219,800 and CNY 239,800, which is CNY 3,000 higher in each case. At the ECB rate of 1 USD = 6.7048 CNY (6 October 2026), the limited-time prices are about $29,350, $32,300 and $35,300, and the guide prices about $29,800, $32,800 and $35,800; the roughly $29,300 shown in the title of some video coverage is the entry limited-time price converted at about 6.7. Buyers who place an order also get eight gift packages worth up to CNY 44,159 (about $6,600), and no end date for the limited-time offer was published in the sources we found, so check it with a dealer. The G318 is sold in China. Deepal has not announced an export launch of this updated version, although the earlier G318 has been reported on sale in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Russia.
How It Compares
Autohome names the Great Wall Haval H10 and the Fangchengbao Titanium 7 as the G318's rivals, and both are covered on our site, with prices converted at the rates used in each article. The Haval H10 is a plug-in hybrid with 590 hp and 1,404 km of total range from $31,080, so it offers more power and more electric range than the G318 for a price in the same area, while the G318 counters with a lower entry price and the Huawei driver-assistance and cockpit software. The Fangchengbao Titanium 7 PHEV starts at $25,200 with 272 hp and up to 1,300 km total range, which makes it the cheaper rival on paper, though with far less power than the G318's 444 hp. The Deepal S09 is a larger six-seater from the same brand, rated at 310 hp and 1,210 km of total range from $34,300, so the G318 offers about 134 hp more than the S09 at a similar price level. The G318's case is the combination of 444 hp, a 200 km electric range and Huawei's software at a price near $29,350 to $35,300.
- 450 PS (444 hp) and 552 Nm from a dual-motor all-wheel-drive EREV, with a 200 km CLTC electric range and more than 1,000 km in total
- Huawei Qiankun ADS 5 Pro and HarmonySpace 5 on the Qiankun trims from CNY 216,800, which Deepal calls unique among boxy SUVs at about CNY 200,000
- Practical body: 760 L boot (1,652 L folded), a flat 1.8 m load floor, 6 kW external power and 600 mm wading depth
- The CNY 196,800 entry price is a limited-time price with no published end date, and the cheapest trim does not have the Huawei software or the in-cabin laser unit
- Weight, top speed and DC charging power are not published, and the 1.4 L/100 km combined figure contrasts with 7.3 L/100 km once the 35.07 kWh battery is depleted
The 2026 G318 turns Deepal's boxy EREV into a technology showcase: 444 hp, a 200 km CLTC electric range, more than 1,000 km in total and Huawei's driver assistance, for CNY 196,800 to CNY 236,800 in China. The Comfort Qiankun at CNY 216,800 looks like the sensible centre of the range, because it adds the Huawei stack without the air suspension premium. The weak points are an entry price that is only promotional, an electric range that is modest for the size, and several figures Deepal has not published yet. For a Chinese family that wants one car for city commuting and the occasional rough road, it is a strong package.
