The Leapmotor Lafa 5, sold as the B05 outside China, is a rear-drive electric hatchback with 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) and up to 482 km WLTP, from EUR 30,900 (~$34,400) in Germany. UK buyers pay GBP 28,995 (~$38,500) after the GBP 1,500 LEAP-GRANT, and in China the same car starts at CNY 97,800 (~$14,671). Euro NCAP gave it five stars in September 2026, and the 67.1 kWh Life is the version most buyers should start with.

Performance & Specs
The B05 is quick for the money. One permanent-magnet motor drives the rear wheels with 160 kW (218 PS / 215 hp) and 240 Nm, enough for 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and a 170 km/h top speed. Leapmotor's UK and global pages print "218 hp", but 218 is the metric PS figure, and 160 kW converts to about 215 hp.
Europe gets only this single-motor car: the 132 kW entry version sold in China is not offered here, and the 180 kW Lafa 5 Ultra is not listed in Germany or the UK.

Boot figures depend on the market. The German price list gives 295 L (1,205 L folded to the roof), while UK, Italian and Spanish data give 345 L (1,400 L), probably because of different measuring methods, so compare rivals like for like.

Charging & Battery
A short fast-charging stop is the norm. The 67.1 kWh LFP battery peaks at 168 kW in Leapmotor Germany's data and 174 kW in the UK data, so treat it as roughly 170 kW, while the 56.2 kWh pack peaks at 140 kW. Charging from 30 to 80% takes 17 minutes (18 on the UK model page) and 10 to 80% takes 24 minutes in the German price list; the 11 kW three-phase on-board charger needs 3 hours 30 minutes for 30-80%.

Design & Interior
The B05 is a five-door hatchback with coupe-inspired lines, frameless doors and flush handles. Inside, a 14.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen, an 8.8-inch cluster and a wireless phone charger are standard. The Life has fabric seats and six speakers; the Design adds a panoramic glass roof, heated and electrically adjustable eco-leather seats, a heated steering wheel and 12 speakers.
Technology & Features
Leap OS 4.0 Plus brings voice control, online navigation and over-the-air updates, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard. The Leapmotor app handles remote climate, locking and charging schedules and works as a Bluetooth phone key.
Safety & ADAS
Seven airbags and 21 Level 2 driver-assistance functions are fitted, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with traffic-jam assist, lane keeping, blind-spot detection and a door-opening warning for cyclists.
Euro NCAP awarded five stars on 2 September 2026: Crash Protection 92%, Post-Crash Safety 89%, Crash Avoidance 77% and Safe Driving 66%. Its caveats are marginal chest protection for the front passenger, non-adaptive restraints, no detection of an unsafe passenger posture and poor pedestrian head protection at the windscreen base and pillars.

Pricing & Availability
Germany's price list of 1 October 2026 (including VAT, excluding delivery) shows the Life at EUR 30,900 (~$34,400) and the Design at EUR 32,900 (~$36,600), both with the 67.1 kWh battery; orders opened on 5 May 2026, and AutoBild lists the 56.2 kWh Life at EUR 27,900 (~$31,100). Italy's official list runs from EUR 28,800 (~$32,100) for the 56.2 kWh Life to EUR 32,400 (~$36,100) for the Design, and EUR 24,800 (~$27,600) for the small Life with a trade-in or scrappage under a contract signed by 30 November 2026. Austria lists the Life at EUR 27,990 (~$31,200), or EUR 26,990 (~$30,000) in a promotion to 31 December 2026 that includes a EUR 1,000 private bonus. In the UK the single 67.1 kWh trim costs GBP 28,995 (~$38,500) after the GBP 1,500 LEAP-GRANT for orders to 31 December 2026, or GBP 30,495 (~$40,500) on the road without it; deliveries are from late July, with a 4-year or 60,000-mile warranty and 8-year or 100,000-mile battery cover. In China the Lafa 5 launched at CNY 97,800 (~$14,671) for the 132 kW car and CNY 105,800 (~$15,871) to CNY 121,800 (~$18,271) for the 160 kW versions, (CLTC range 515-605 km, not comparable with WLTP).
How It Compares
All three prices are German list prices. The CUPRA Raval Plus, a 4,046 mm city car, costs about EUR 1,050 less than the Life but has 82 hp and 154 km less WLTP range. The Leapmotor B10 EV is a compact SUV with the same 215 hp, and it costs EUR 1,500 more than the B05 Life for 48 km less range.
- 215 hp rear-wheel drive, 6.7 seconds to 100 km/h and 482 km WLTP from EUR 30,900 in Germany
- Euro NCAP five stars with 92% for Crash Protection and 89% for Post-Crash Safety
- Long standard equipment: 14.6-inch screen, 21 ADAS functions, wireless charging; in the UK also a panoramic roof and 360-degree cameras
- Euro NCAP Safe Driving scored 66%, front passenger chest protection was marginal and the restraints are not adaptive
- Boot and charging figures differ by market: 295 L in Germany against 345 L in the UK, 168 kW against 174 kW DC peak
The Lafa 5 (B05) is a rear-drive 215 hp hatchback with 482 km WLTP and five Euro NCAP stars, from EUR 30,900 in Germany and GBP 28,995 in the UK. It suits buyers who want more power and range than a CUPRA Raval Plus or a Leapmotor B10 for similar money and accept a 66% Safe Driving score; UK reviews were mixed. Take the 67.1 kWh Life for range, or compare the cheaper small-battery Life offers in Italy and Austria.
