2026 KGM Torres EVX: 503 km Electric SUV From $47,900

The 2026 KGM Torres EVX is the electric version of KGM's boxy mid-size Torres SUV — KGM being the rebranded name SsangYong Motor has used since 2023 after its acquisition by the KG Group. Positioned as a value-focused rival to the Tesla Model Y and other mid-size electric SUVs, the Torres EVX pairs a single front-mounted motor with a large lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, prioritizing range and a low sticker price over outright performance or all-wheel drive. Since its March 2023 debut in South Korea, KGM has rolled the EVX out across Europe, the UK, and, as of November 2025, Australia, with a 2026 update that swaps in a bigger 80.6 kWh battery for a WLTP-rated range beyond 500 km. In Germany, the regular range starts at €41,990 (about $47,900), and a Nomad special edition from €34,990 (about $39,900) is delivered from September 2026. It's a straightforward pitch: real interior space, a genuinely rugged design, and one of the industry's longest battery warranties, aimed at buyers who want an EV SUV without paying a premium badge tax.

Performance & Specs

The Torres EVX uses a single permanent-magnet synchronous motor mounted on the front axle, producing 152 kW (207 PS / 204 hp) and 339 Nm of torque — identical output across every trim, since KGM differentiates the lineup by equipment rather than power. KGM quotes a 0-100 km/h time of around 8.2 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 175 km/h, numbers that prioritize efficient cruising over outright pace. Unlike the related Musso EV pickup, which uses the same 80.6 kWh pack split across front and rear motors for full-time all-wheel drive, the Torres EVX is front-wheel drive only — there is no AWD option on the SUV itself. The tradeoff is straightforward: a lighter, simpler drivetrain in exchange for a lower price and one of the longer ranges in its class.

Dimensions & Practicality

Length	4,715 mm
Width	1,890 mm
Height	1,725 mm
Wheelbase	2,680 mm
Ground clearance	169 mm

At 4,715 mm long, 1,890 mm wide and 1,725 mm tall on a 2,680 mm wheelbase, the Torres EVX is a genuine mid-size SUV — close in footprint to a Hyundai Tucson or Chevrolet Equinox EV rather than a compact crossover. Ground clearance is a useful 169 mm, and KGM's boxy, upright body shape translates into real cabin space: rear passengers get flat floors and generous headroom, while the cargo area holds 839 litres behind the rear seats, expanding to 1,662 litres with them folded. There's no front trunk — the motor bay is fully occupied by the single front-mounted drive unit — so all luggage goes through the tailgate. Curb weight lands around 2,000 kg, roughly in line with rivals carrying similarly sized LFP battery packs.

Charging & Battery

European-spec 2026 Torres EVX models use an 80.6 kWh (usable) LFP battery built on BYD's Blade cell technology, running on a 400-volt architecture. KGM rates the pack for up to 503 km of WLTP range — up from the roughly 462 km WLTP offered by the smaller 73.4 kWh battery the Torres EVX launched with in 2023, before the mid-2026 update. DC fast charging tops out at 120 kW, enough for a 10-80% top-up in about 36 minutes, while an 11 kW AC wallbox takes roughly 9 to 10 hours for a full charge from empty. KGM backs the pack with an unusually generous 10-year/1,000,000 km battery warranty, well beyond the 8-year/160,000 km norm most rivals offer, reflecting LFP chemistry's durability advantage over nickel-based packs.

BATTERY	80.6 kWh (usable) LFP, 400V architecture
AC CHARGING	11 kW (0-100% in ~9-10 hours)
DC FAST CHARGING	Up to 120 kW
DC 10-80% TIME	~36 min

Design & Interior

The EVX's front end is the Torres line's signature feature: a full-width LED light bar broken into eight illuminated blocks sits above a blanked-off grille, since there's no combustion engine to cool in the same way. The rest of the bodywork keeps the standard Torres's slab-sided, boxy proportions and squared-off wheel arches — a deliberately rugged look that stands apart from the swoopy, aero-optimized shapes most electric SUVs chase. Inside, the dashboard is dominated by twin 12.3-inch displays — one digital instrument cluster, one central touchscreen — sitting on a floating panel, with climate controls and the gear selector arranged on a separate lower console, an unusual layout KGM carried over from the combustion Torres. Upper trims add two-tone leather upholstery with contrast stitching, heated front seats, and ambient lighting; every trim gets the same twin-screen setup and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Technology & Features

Both screens run KGM's latest infotainment software with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus a wireless phone charging pad and DAB digital radio. The Torres EVX supports Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), letting owners power camping equipment, tools, or another EV directly from the battery through an adapter — a feature increasingly expected on electric SUVs but still a genuine convenience for outdoor-minded buyers. A 360° around-view camera system is standard on the range-topping Lux trim, layering onto the radar- and camera-based driver-assist suite that's standard across the whole range.

Safety & ADAS

KGM equips every Torres EVX with eight airbags, including a center-mounted airbag between the front seats, plus Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), 360° radar sensors, lane keeping assist, and automatic emergency braking. The system amounts to a solid L2 driver-assist suite for the segment, if not the most advanced hardware some Chinese and Korean rivals now offer. KGM's eCall emergency system rounds out the safety package, automatically alerting responders after a serious collision.

ADAS LEVEL	L2 (Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control)
ADAS FEATURES	AEB, IACC, LKA, 360° radar sensors, 360° camera (Lux), eCall

Pricing & Availability

KGM launched the Torres EVX in South Korea in March 2023 before expanding across Europe through 2024 and 2025. In Germany, the current 80.6 kWh version starts at €41,990 (about $47,900) for the Core trim, rising to €44,990 (about $51,300) for Bliss and €48,990 (about $55,850) for Lux, plus a Nomad special edition from €34,990 (about $39,900), built on Bliss with about €3,000 of extra equipment and delivered from September 2026; the 80.6 kWh battery upgrade landed in May 2026 at unchanged pricing versus the outgoing 73.4 kWh version. In the UK, the Torres EVX starts at £36,995 (roughly $49,400), and the Netherlands lists it from around €38,990 to €41,250 (about $44,400-$47,000) depending on configuration. KGM Australia launched its own version in November 2025 at AUD 58,000 drive-away (about $41,300), fitted with the same 80.6 kWh battery but a locally certified WLTP range of 462 km — a reminder that range figures for the same nameplate can vary by market and homologation cycle. As of September 2026, KGM has not announced a North American launch for the Torres EVX.

How It Compares

Against the Chevrolet Equinox EV, which starts lower at $34,995 with more power (300 hp) and slightly more range (513 km), the Torres EVX counters with a bigger LFP-based battery and that exceptional 10-year battery warranty, though the Chevrolet's stronger motor gives it a real performance edge. The Volkswagen ID. ERA 9X is the closer match on paper: near-identical power (201 hp vs 204 hp) and a $41,318 price point between the Nomad edition and the regular Core trim, with the Volkswagen offering more range (550 km vs up to 503 km), making the choice largely about badge and dealer network rather than raw spec. The VOYAH Taishan X8, also priced around $41,318, sits below the regular Core trim (though above the Nomad edition) and offers noticeably more power (255 hp) for buyers who want extra punch alongside similar range. None of the three directly match the Tesla Model Y, but KGM's own marketing leans into that comparison — the Nomad edition's €34,990 is the version priced to make that case, even if it can't match Tesla's charging network or software polish.
