FAW-Volkswagen's Jetta brand has opened pre-sales for the M6, its first battery-electric car, and it is priced like a small hatchback rather than a mid-size sedan. Pre-sales began in China on September 28, 2026 with three trims priced from 80,800 yuan (about $12,000) to 99,800 yuan (about $14,900), and the official market launch is planned for mid-October. The M6 is a 4,806 mm sedan on a 2,820 mm wheelbase with a single front motor of 113 kW (152 hp) or 145 kW (194 hp) and a lithium iron phosphate battery from CALB rated at up to 555 km on the CLTC cycle.
The top 555 Ultra trim carries a city-and-highway navigation-assist package built on Horizon Robotics' Journey 6M chip, which brings that kind of software to a car that costs under 100,000 yuan. These are limited-time pre-sale prices rather than final launch prices, and every dollar figure in this article is converted at 6.72 yuan to the dollar. Jetta is a China-only brand created inside the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, so the M6 should not be confused with the Volkswagen Jetta compact sedan sold in other regions.
Performance & Specs
Every M6 is front-wheel drive with one permanent-magnet motor on the front axle. The two 555 km trims use a 145 kW motor, which is 194 hp when converted at 1.341 hp per kW, with a rated (continuous) output of 62 kW. Jetta quotes 0–100 km/h in 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 172 km/h for these versions. The entry 465 Pro uses a lower-output 113 kW motor, about 152 hp, with 57 kW rated output, a 0–100 km/h time of 8.3 seconds and a top speed of 166 km/h.
Chinese specification sheets quote power in kilowatts, so the horsepower figures here are converted from the official kW numbers at 1.341 hp per kW. Jetta says the motor is a nine-in-one electric drive unit supplied by CRRC, which integrates the motor, gearbox and power electronics in a single housing. Torque figures were not included in the pre-sale material.
Range is quoted on the generous CLTC cycle: 465 km for the 42.9 kWh pack and 555 km for the 51.9 kWh pack. Jetta lists comprehensive energy consumption at 10.5 kWh/100 km for the 465 Pro and 10.7 kWh/100 km for the 555 versions. Those are CLTC comprehensive figures that include charging losses of roughly 14%; dividing battery capacity by CLTC range gives a battery-to-wheel figure of about 9.2 kWh/100 km for the small pack and 9.4 kWh/100 km for the large one, which lines up with the official numbers once charging losses are added back.

At 4,806 mm long with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the M6 is a genuine mid-size sedan, and the wheelbase is long for a car sold below 100,000 yuan. It is 1,500 mm tall. Regulatory filings list the width as 1,868 mm or 1,895 mm; launch coverage says the 555 Ultra is the 1,895 mm version, and Jetta's own launch graphic quotes 1,895 mm. Curb weight is listed at 1,557 to 1,628 kg depending on the version, which is light for a car with a 51.9 kWh pack.
Cargo space is reported at 542 litres with the rear seats up, and Jetta says the boot grows to as much as 1,800 litres with the second row folded. The cabin has 24 storage spots, and the front seats can recline fully flat and join the rear bench to form a bed. The rear seat measures 1,501 mm across and front headroom is 1,014 mm, according to figures published at the launch.

Charging & Battery
Both batteries are lithium iron phosphate packs supplied by CALB and assembled by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. The 465 Pro carries 42.9 kWh and the two 555 trims carry 51.9 kWh. Jetta says the pack has passed more than 400 extreme tests and an eight-times-national-standard underbody scrape test. The charge port sits on the front passenger-side fender.
The pre-sale material does not state a DC fast-charging power or a 10–80% charging time, so we are not quoting one; those figures should arrive at the mid-October launch. What Jetta did confirm is a 3.5 kW vehicle-to-load function, which lets the car power camping gear or appliances, and a standard heat pump that helps winter range. Buyers who pay the 1,000 yuan deposit can also choose between a free wallbox with installation within 30 metres or a combined charging and discharging gun plus 800 yuan of loyalty points.

Design & Interior
Jetta calls the design language bamboo-inspired. The nose is closed and smooth with slim, split headlights, the roofline slopes into a fastback shape, the door handles are semi-hidden and the rear carries a full-width light bar with illuminated JETTA lettering. The car is offered in six colours (teal, purple, silver, white, black and gold) on 17-inch or 18-inch wheels, and the launch images show a purple car. There is even a small panda graphic hidden in the windscreen frit as an easter egg, a nod to the car's Chengdu origins.
Inside, the dashboard is a low horizontal sweep with a two-spoke, squared-off steering wheel, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen. There are three interior colour schemes: grey, white and purple. The front seats can be heated and ventilated on the 555 trims, and the top 555 Ultra adds massage, memory and power lumbar support, along with 256-colour ambient lighting and illuminated door handles. A three-layer silver-coated panoramic glass roof is fitted on the mid and top trims and is claimed to block 99.9% of ultraviolet light.
Technology & Features
The cabin runs an AI assistant that draws on three large language models (Doubao, DeepSeek and Qwen) and understands more than 650 types of voice command. Lane-level navigation, a dual-zone voice recognition system, and full phone mirroring for Huawei HiCar, CarLink and Apple CarPlay are standard on every trim. Every M6 also gets over-the-air updates, a phone-based digital key and a karaoke function without a microphone, and the 555 trims add a 50 W wireless charging pad.
The remaining standard equipment list is generous for the price: a transparent-chassis camera view, sentry mode, remote parking, an automatic parking function, digital tyre pressure monitoring, dual-zone climate control and heated, folding power mirrors. Some of the cabin features come from the higher trims, and the exact trim-by-trim table will be confirmed at the October launch.
Safety & ADAS
All three trims get automatic emergency braking that works from 0 to 130 km/h, forward-collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic braking and 14 active-safety functions in total. Jetta claims an 80.6 km/h result in the moose (elk) avoidance test. The body uses 86% high-strength steel with strengths up to 2,000 MPa, 31% hot-stamped steel and a torsional rigidity of 38,073 N·m.
The step up is on the 555 Ultra. It adds the Journey 6M-based navigation-assist package with city and highway NOA, automatic lane change, narrow-road assist, roundabout handling and cross-floor memory parking. The hardware is 11 cameras, one millimeter-wave radar and 12 ultrasonic radars, so this is a vision-led system without LiDAR. Reports differ on whether the 555 Max offers the package as an option, so treat that as unconfirmed until the launch price sheet appears.

Pricing & Availability
The limited-time pre-sale prices are 80,800 yuan ($12,000) for the 465 Pro, 90,800 yuan ($13,500) for the 555 Max and 99,800 yuan ($14,900) for the 555 Ultra. Jetta bundles the order with about 11,000 yuan (roughly $1,600) of launch perks: a 1,000 yuan deposit that counts as 2,000 yuan off the price, a free colour-change wrap for the first 600 orders, a wallbox or a charge-and-discharge gun, a trade-in subsidy of at least 4,000 yuan, and priority production and delivery for pre-sale customers. Final launch prices have not been announced, and Chinese listings label the car a 2027 model year.
The M6 is built in Chengdu by FAW Volkswagen Jetta Automotive Technology, the Jetta-brand company the joint venture set up in January 2026. It is Jetta's first electric model, and the brand plans five new models by 2028, four of them electrified, with an ambition of 400,000 to 500,000 annual sales in the medium term. The official launch is planned for mid-October 2026, and Jetta has not announced any export plans.
How It Compares
Chinese coverage positions the M6 against the XPeng Mona M03 and the MG 07, and our database shows both cost more. The Mona M03 sells at about $16,800 with 215 hp and 640 km of range, so the top-spec 555 Ultra undercuts it by around $1,900 while giving up about 21 hp and 85 km of stated range. The MG 07 Semi Solid is the long-range option at $18,595 with 236 hp and 845 km, roughly $3,700 more than the Jetta's top trim.
The BYD Seagull is not a direct rival, since it is a much smaller hatchback, but it is the useful value contrast: at $11,628 it costs about the same as the M6 465 Pro yet offers 74 hp and 305 km of range against the Jetta's 152 hp and 465 km. The M6's pitch is size and equipment for the money rather than outright performance, and its trade-off against the Mona M03 is a lower power figure on paper.
- City and highway navigation assist on a trim that costs under 100,000 yuan (about $14,900)
- Up to 555 km CLTC range, a standard heat pump and 3.5 kW vehicle-to-load on every trim
- Mid-size dimensions (2,820 mm wheelbase, 542 L boot) at a small-car price
- DC fast-charging speed and torque figures have not been published, and prices are limited-time pre-sale numbers
- Single front motor with 152 hp on the base trim and no LiDAR, and range is quoted on the generous CLTC cycle
The 2027 Jetta M6 is a volume play: a roomy mid-size electric sedan from a Volkswagen joint venture, priced from about $12,000 and topped by a $14,900 trim with city navigation assist and a 555 km CLTC battery. It does not chase performance, and some key numbers such as DC charging speed are still missing, but the equipment list is unusually rich for the money and the 555 Max looks like the sweet spot. If the launch prices stay close to the pre-sale figures, this will be one of the strongest-value electric sedans in China.
