The second-generation Hyundai Kona Electric is a compact front-wheel-drive electric crossover that Hyundai sells with two battery sizes, a single front motor and a long list of trim levels. In Germany the 2027 model-year price list shows five equipment lines (Select, Trend, N Line, Prime and N Line X), a 49 kWh battery with 99 kW (135 PS, about 133 hp) and a 65 kWh battery with 150 kW (204 PS, about 201 hp). WLTP range is 380 km for the small pack and up to 510 km for the large one, and the car is 4,355 mm long, with a 466-litre boot and a 27-litre front compartment. Hyundai Germany lists the range from EUR 38,340, while in Israel the importer Colmobil has sold the 65 kWh car since March 2026 from NIS 174,990. In the US, Hyundai has not published 2027 trims, prices or range as of October 2026. Specifications, and even motor power, differ between markets, so this article states which market each figure belongs to.
Performance & Specs
Every Kona Electric has one electric motor driving the front wheels through a reduction gear. In the German specification, the 65 kWh car produces 150 kW (204 PS, about 201 hp) and 255 Nm, and Hyundai Germany quotes 0-100 km/h in 8.1 seconds on 17-inch wheels and 8.2 seconds on the 19-inch wheels of the N Line and Prime, with a top speed of 172 km/h. The 49 kWh car has 99 kW (135 PS, about 133 hp) and the same 255 Nm, takes 9.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h and tops out at 162 km/h. PS is the metric horsepower, about 1.4 percent smaller than the imperial hp, which is why 204 PS converts to 201 hp rather than 204.
Motor output is not the same everywhere. The importer Colmobil lists the Israeli car at 160 kW (214 hp) with 26 kgm (about 255 Nm) and 0-100 km/h in 7.8 to 8.1 seconds, which matches the 160 kW (218 PS) top motor Hyundai UK announced when the generation launched in July 2023, whereas the current German price list shows 150 kW. Treat the German 201 hp figure as the one for European cars on the MY27 list and the Israeli 214 hp as the importer's figure for the Israeli specification. For the United States, Hyundai has not published 2027 trims, prices, range or motor output as of October 2026, so this article gives no US power figure.
Kerb weights under EC type approval, including a 75 kg driver, are 1,690 to 1,765 kg for the 49 kWh car and 1,773 to 1,870 kg for the 65 kWh one. The braked towing limit is 750 kg for the 65 kWh car and 300 kg for the 49 kWh one, with a 100 kg roof load. Hyundai Germany also lists the 65 kWh car on 215/60 R17 tyres as standard and 235/45 R19 tyres on the N Line, N Line X and as an option on the Prime.

The Kona Electric is a small crossover: 4,355 mm long, 1,825 mm wide and 1,580 mm tall on a 2,660 mm wheelbase, according to the Hyundai Germany technical data, with 151 mm of ground clearance. The N Line bodywork adds 30 mm of length, to 4,385 mm. The UK launch release gave the same wheelbase and noted that the generation grew by 145 mm in length and 60 mm in wheelbase compared with the first Kona Electric. The boot holds 466 litres with the rear seats up and 1,300 litres with them folded, and a separate 27-litre front compartment sits under the bonnet. Both figures also appear on the Israeli importer's data.
Israeli reviews describe a 40:20:40 split-folding rear bench, and the Germany list prices an electric tailgate at EUR 550 on the Trend and N Line (it is not offered on the Select), with the tailgate standard from the Prime upwards. The frunk, the V2L socket and the flat load floor make it practical for its size.

Charging & Battery
The Kona Electric uses a 400-volt system, not the 800-volt architecture of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6. Hyundai Germany lists maximum DC charging power of 94 kW for the 65 kWh car and 74 kW for the 49 kWh car, and gives 38.5 minutes for 10-80% on a 350 kW charger for both. The Israeli importer lists about 101 kW and roughly 41 minutes for the 65 kWh car, and the UK launch release gave a 102.3 kW peak; the German list is the lower and later number. AC charging is 11 kW, which Hyundai Germany says takes about 5 hours 55 minutes for the 65 kWh car and 4 hours 25 minutes for the 49 kWh one from 10% to 100%, while Colmobil quotes 6 hours 25 minutes for the Israeli car.
Hyundai Germany describes the large pack only as 65 kWh. Hyundai UK's 2023 launch release, Hyundai importers and the German magazine auto motor und sport quote 65.4 kWh, while the independent EV Database lists 64.8 kWh usable, so we show the 65.4 kWh figure as quoted by Hyundai's markets and do not treat it as net capacity. The WLTP consumption on the German list is 14.7 to 16.5 kWh/100 km for the 65 kWh car and 14.6 kWh/100 km for the 49 kWh car. Those figures are measured at the socket, which include charging losses of about 15 percent, so they sit above the roughly 12.8 kWh/100 km that 65.4 kWh over 510 km would suggest at the battery.
| BATTERY | 49 kWh or 65 kWh (Germany); 65.4 kWh (Israel); 400 V system |
|---|---|
| AC CHARGING | 11 kW |
| DC FAST CHARGING | Up to 94 kW (65 kWh) and 74 kW (49 kWh), Germany; about 101 kW, Israel |

Design & Interior
Hyundai's German site highlights the LED light bands at the front and rear of the second-generation Kona. On the electric version the front is closed, with the charging port in the centre of the nose, and a thin light strip runs across the width of the tailgate above the Kona lettering. The N Line trims add sportier bumpers, side skirts and 19-inch wheels, while the N Line X adds a black roof and, in Germany, Alcantara and leather upholstery. Prime has chrome exterior elements and velour and leather seats. The press photos here show a white N Line with a black roof and a blue car in standard trim.
Inside, the Kona has two 12.3-inch screens under a single panoramic housing, physical climate controls under them, and wireless phone charging from the Trend upwards. The Germany list gives every Kona Electric navigation, a rear-view camera, front and rear parking sensors and two-zone climate control. Trend adds heated front seats and steering wheel, privacy glass, multicolour ambient lighting and a height-adjustable passenger seat. Prime and N Line X add electrically adjustable front seats, a head-up display, a BOSE sound system, a 360-degree camera and a 230 V socket with a V2L adapter.
Technology & Features
The Kona Electric runs Hyundai's connected-car navigation cockpit with over-the-air software updates, navigation-based smart cruise control and a phone-based Digital Key that Hyundai Germany sells only in the EUR 1,150 Technik package for the Prime and N Line X. Hyundai notes that Bluelink and over-the-air updates may require a paid subscription. The UK launch release added that the system would later support feature-on-demand upgrades. Regenerative braking has multiple levels, including one-pedal driving, according to Israeli coverage, and the car supports bidirectional charging for external devices. Hyundai Germany promotes a remote parking assistant on its model page as well.
Safety & ADAS
Euro NCAP tested the second-generation Kona in 2023 and awarded four stars, with 80% for adult occupants, 83% for child occupants, 64% for vulnerable road users and 60% for safety assist. The shortfall was mainly in safety assist, and the rating describes the car as tested in 2023, so check the current equipment list of the specification you are buying. Hyundai Germany's list gives all trims navigation-based smart cruise control, and the Prime and N Line X add a blind-spot assist with monitor display, rear cross-traffic collision-avoidance assist and rear parking assist with emergency braking as standard; the Trend and N Line can add them, with a 360-degree camera, in a EUR 1,150 assistance package. The UK launch list included forward collision-avoidance assist, lane keep and lane follow assist, driver attention warning, intelligent speed-limit assist and eCall as standard.

Pricing & Availability
These are manufacturer list prices from Hyundai Germany's MY27 price list (as of October 2026), which gives recommended retail prices including VAT before delivery charges. With the 49 kWh battery the Kona Electric costs EUR 38,340 in Select and EUR 40,840 in Trend. With the 65 kWh battery it costs EUR 41,340 in Select, EUR 43,840 in Trend, EUR 45,340 in N Line, EUR 47,440 in Prime and EUR 48,940 in N Line X. At the ECB reference rate of 6 October 2026 (EUR 1 = USD 1.1269), that is roughly USD 43,200 for the cheapest car and USD 46,600 for the 65 kWh Select. Hyundai Germany gives a five-year vehicle warranty with no mileage limit and an eight-year, 160,000 km battery warranty.
In Israel the importer Colmobil launched the second-generation Kona Electric in March 2026 in two trims: Pure at NIS 174,990 with up to 506 km WLTP, and Ultimate at NIS 184,990 with up to 466 km on its larger wheels. At the same ECB date (NIS 1 = USD 0.32808) that is about USD 57,400 and USD 60,700. The Ultimate adds a 360-degree camera, 19-inch wheels, an electric tailgate, power front seats and blind-spot monitoring. Israeli warranty cover is five years for the vehicle and seven years for the battery. In the United States, Hyundai has not published 2027 trims, prices or range as of October 2026. Hyundai skipped the 2026 model year for the US with a 2027 model due (electrive, 5 February 2026), and hyundaiusa.com still shows the 2025 model at $32,975 (SE), $36,975 (SEL), $38,375 (N Line) and $41,150 (Limited).
How It Compares
The closest German price match is the Kia EV3 Air Long Range, which has the same 150 kW (204 PS, 201 hp) and costs EUR 41,390, only EUR 50 more than the Kona 65 kWh Select. The Kia has an 81.4 kWh battery and up to 605 km WLTP, about 100 km more than the Hyundai, and Kia quotes about 31 minutes for 10-80% against the Kona's 38.5 minutes, though the Kia needs a charger of at least 128 kW to reach its peak. The Skoda Elroq 60 is EUR 3,450 cheaper than the Kona 65 kWh and offers 61 kWh gross LFP, 140 kW (190 PS, 188 hp), up to 453 km WLTP and 105 kW charging with a 26-minute 10-80% time. It is a bigger car at 4,488 mm long, while the Kona, at 4,355 mm, sits between the 4,300 mm Kia and the Skoda and has a 27-litre frunk against the Skoda's 21 litres. The Kona's case rests on its trim ladder, equipment such as V2L and a heat pump, and a 5-year warranty, not on range or charging speed.
- Two batteries and seven German trim and battery combinations from EUR 38,340, with up to 510 km WLTP from the 65 kWh car at EUR 41,340
- Compact but practical: 466-1,300 L boot plus a 27 L frunk, a 2,660 mm wheelbase and 750 kg braked towing capacity on the 65 kWh car
- Equipment that matters: dual 12.3-inch screens on every trim, V2L and a 230 V socket on Prime and N Line X, and a five-year warranty with an eight-year battery guarantee in Germany
- Charging is modest: up to 94 kW and about 38.5 minutes for 10-80% in Germany on a 400 V system, behind the 105 kW Skoda Elroq 60 (26 min) and the Kia EV3 (about 31 min)
- Euro NCAP gave the generation four stars in 2023, and key figures differ by market, including 150 kW in Germany against 160 kW in Israel, with no 2027 specification published for the US
The Kona Electric is a sensible compact electric crossover for buyers who want a familiar front-wheel-drive layout, a decent 510 km WLTP range and plenty of equipment choice. The 65 kWh Select at EUR 41,340 is the sweet spot in Germany, because EUR 3,000 over the 49 kWh Select buys 130 km more WLTP range and a 0-100 km/h time 1.8 seconds quicker. Charging at 94 kW is its weak spot against a Kia EV3 that costs about the same. Check the market-specific specification before buying, because power, charging and range differ.
