The BMW iX4 is the electric SUV coupe of the Neue Klasse family, and BMW unveiled it on 8 October 2026 as the third Neue Klasse model after the iX3 and the i3 sedan. It is a pure battery-electric car (BEV) with one motor on each axle in every version, an 800-volt system, sixth-generation eDrive technology and cylindrical cells in the battery. The line-up has three all-wheel-drive versions: the iX4 40 xDrive with 275 kW (374 PS, about 369 hp), the iX4 50 xDrive with 345 kW (469 PS, about 463 hp) and the iX4 M60 xDrive with 450 kW (612 PS, about 603 hp). BMW quotes WLTP ranges of up to 638, 828 and 777 km, and DC charging of up to 300 kW for the 40 xDrive and up to 400 kW for the other two. BMW's press kit puts the 40 xDrive from €70,900 and the 50 xDrive from €75,900 in Germany, with market launch in March 2027, production in Debrecen, Hungary, and no Israeli price announced yet.
Performance & Specs
The iX4 40 xDrive is the entry version and makes 275 kW (374 PS, about 369 hp) and 520 Nm from a 123 kW front motor and a 195 kW rear motor. BMW gives 5.6 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h and an electronically limited top speed of 200 km/h. The 50 xDrive keeps the same front motor and uses a 240 kW rear motor, for 345 kW (469 PS, about 463 hp) and 645 Nm, 4.9 seconds to 100 km/h and 210 km/h. Both use BMW's sixth-generation eDrive layout, with an electrically excited synchronous motor at the rear axle and an asynchronous motor at the front. (PS is the metric horsepower, about 1.4 percent smaller than the imperial hp used here. BMW's international press material prints the PS number with the label hp, so 469 hp in BMW's German kit is the same car as the 463 hp in its US kit.)
The flagship is the iX4 M60 xDrive with BMW M eDrive, rated at 450 kW (612 PS, about 603 hp) and 875 Nm, with 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds and a top speed limited to 240 km/h. BMW marks all M60 figures as provisional because binding WLTP values are not yet available and the car is not yet available to order. The M60 comes with an M-specific all-wheel-drive application, a rear M locking differential, adaptive M suspension, 21-inch wheels and the M Sport and M Sport Plus My Modes. BMW USA lists the M60 at 603 hp and 645 lb-ft with an estimated 3.7 seconds from 0 to 60 mph.
All three versions use a lithium-ion battery that BMW describes by its net (usable) energy content: 82.6 kWh in the 40 xDrive and 108.7 kWh in the 50 xDrive and the M60 xDrive. BMW does not publish gross capacities for the European cars. WLTP range is up to 638 km for the 40 xDrive (526 to 638 km depending on equipment), up to 828 km for the 50 xDrive (680 to 828 km) and a provisional 777 km for the M60 xDrive, with combined consumption of 19.1-15.9, 19.0-15.7 and 20.2-17.1 kWh/100 km. For the US, BMW gives a preliminary estimate of up to 428 miles (about 689 km) for the 50 xDrive, based on BMW testing with EPA procedures. BMW says the Gen6 technology raises range by about 30 percent over its Gen5 cars and charges about 30 percent faster.

Charging & Battery
The 50 xDrive charges at up to 400 kW DC from its 108.7 kWh net battery, and BMW says that 10 minutes at a 400 kW charger adds up to 387 km of WLTP-based range, measured under ISO 12906. Charging from 10 to 80 percent takes 21 minutes. The 40 xDrive peaks at 300 kW with its 82.6 kWh battery, also taking 21 minutes for 10 to 80 percent and adding up to 301 km in 10 minutes. The M60 xDrive charges at up to 400 kW and BMW gives up to 360 km added in 10 minutes. AC charging is 11 kW as standard on every version and 22 kW as an option, which BMW says fills the 50 xDrive from empty in 5 hours 30 minutes (11 hours at 11 kW) and the 40 xDrive in 4 hours 15 minutes (8 hours 15 minutes at 11 kW). BMW states that the M60 xDrive charges at 22 kW AC as standard. The US-specification car has a 15.4 kW AC charger.
As a sanity check, the 50 xDrive's 108.7 kWh and 828 km imply about 13.1 kWh/100 km at the battery, and BMW's best WLTP consumption of 15.7 kWh/100 km is about 20 percent higher, which corresponds to charging losses. The 40 xDrive's 82.6 kWh and 638 km give 12.9 kWh/100 km against 15.9 kWh/100 km, about 23 percent higher. The 387 km added in 10 minutes equals about 51 kWh at 13.1 kWh/100 km, an average of roughly 305 kW, which is below the 400 kW peak. BMW USA lists a usable energy content of 112.2 kWh for the US-specification 50 xDrive, against 108.7 kWh for the European cars, and BMWBlog reports that this is the same pack rated under different regulations.

Design & Interior
The front end carries the Neue Klasse face, where the BMW kidneys and the twin headlights merge into one graphic unit, and the roofline links to a long wheelbase and short overhangs for the coupe silhouette. At the rear there is a pronounced spoiler with an integrated brake light and slim horizontal rear lights, with a black diffuser on the M60 xDrive. The M Sport package is standard on every version with 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, and a full-length panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing is standard too. The M60 xDrive adds M front design elements, optional M Yellow Lights, black kidney M Shadowline trim, a special M rear spoiler, 21-inch wheels as standard and the BMW Iconic Glow package, which is optional on the other two. BMW offers nine exterior colours at the start of orders, three more Frozen finishes from March 2027 and BMW Individual colours later, plus wheels of up to 22 inches.
Inside, the iX4 uses BMW Panoramic iDrive, which combines the Panoramic Vision display at the base of the windscreen, a 17.9-inch Central Display with touch control, an optional 3D Head-Up Display and a sports steering wheel. BMW offers seven interior options. The M60 xDrive has M Sport seats with 10-way electric adjustment and a massage function (optional on the other versions), a model-specific M Sport steering wheel with a 12 o'clock marker and a Harman Kardon system with 13 speakers and 430 W that supports Dolby Atmos. The standard audio system has 7 speakers and 205 W, and the Harman Kardon system is optional on the 40 and 50 xDrive. BMW fits a Digital Key Plus with Comfort Access and an automatic tailgate with Smart Opener as standard.
Technology & Features
Like all Neue Klasse cars, the iX4 is built around four high-performance computers that BMW calls superbrains. One of them, Heart of Joy, controls drive and chassis functions and, according to BMW, works about ten times faster than the previous systems. The operating system is BMW Operating System X, with an intelligent personal assistant (which BMW USA says uses Amazon Alexa+ AI technology in the US), My Modes and BMW Digital Premium apps on every version. BMW offers a Motorway Assistant for hands-free driving at up to 130 km/h (85 mph in the US), with automated lane changes after an eye signal from the driver and navigation-guided entry-to-exit driving with BMW Maps. BMW lists 21 countries for the feature by the end of 2026, including Germany, the UK, Italy, France, Spain, the USA, Canada and Japan. The bidirectional charging functions need an adapter or the BMW Wallbox Professional, and BMW says that the Multifunction Charger with the Vehicle-to-Load adapter is expected in the fourth quarter.
Safety & ADAS
BMW's technical sheet lists airbags for driver and passenger, side airbags, an interaction airbag between the front seats, head airbags front and rear, three-point belts on all seats with front belt tensioners and force limiters, DSC with ABS, ASC and Dynamic Traction Control, Cornering Brake Control, a brake drying function, Hill Descent Control and tyre pressure display. The driver assistance systems are SAE Level 2, grouped under the name BMW Symbiotic Drive, and the Motorway Assistant and the Motorway & City Assistant are available on top of active safety functions such as the Lane Keeping Assistant, which only intervenes when the system detects an unintended lane departure or an impending collision. BMW has not published a Euro NCAP result for the iX4.

Pricing & Availability
BMW will build the iX4 at its Debrecen plant in Hungary, alongside the iX3, and launches it in March 2027 with the 40 xDrive and the 50 xDrive. In Germany, BMW's press kit of 8 October 2026 lists the iX4 40 xDrive from €70,900 and the 50 xDrive from €75,900; the kit says that its equipment and consumption figures refer to the German market, and its FAQ gives the prices in euros without printing the VAT status, while BMW's German list prices normally include 19 percent VAT. BMW gives no date for the opening of orders for the 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive. The M60 xDrive can be ordered from January 2027, its production starts in March 2027 and its market launch will happen in stages, and BMW has not announced its price. In the United States, BMW USA says that the iX4 50 xDrive launches in March 2027 and that the M60 xDrive follows later in 2027; BMW USA prices the 50 xDrive from $66,200 plus destination and handling and lists only the 50 xDrive and the M60 xDrive for the US. BMW's press material does not include a UK price. In Israel, BMW is imported by Delek Motors, which already sells the iX3, but the iX4 has not been announced or priced there.
How It Compares
The closest comparison is the BMW iX3 50 xDrive, which has the same 463 hp and the same 108.7 kWh net battery. The iX4 adds 23 km of WLTP range (828 against 805 km) for €5,000 more in Germany (€75,900 against €70,900), and it gives up 30 L of boot space. The Audi Q6 Sportback e-tron quattro costs €77,100 and offers 422 hp and up to 657 km, so the iX4 50 xDrive is €1,200 cheaper, has 41 hp more and 171 km more range. The Mercedes-Benz GLC 400 4MATIC lists 483 hp, up to 715 km and €71,281, which makes it €4,619 cheaper than the iX4 50 xDrive with 20 hp more power but 113 km less range. All figures are German list prices and WLTP ranges for the top-range dual-motor version of each model, taken from each maker's own data, and the iX4's price excludes options.
- Up to 828 km WLTP from 108.7 kWh net, the longest range in the group of German rivals compared here, with a drag coefficient of 0.23
- 400 kW DC charging with 10-80% in 21 minutes and up to 387 km added in 10 minutes on the 50 xDrive
- Three versions from 275 kW (369 hp) to 450 kW (603 hp), all dual-motor all-wheel drive with M Sport package and panoramic roof as standard
- €5,000 more than the same-drivetrain iX3 50 xDrive in Germany, with 30 L less boot space (490 L) and 150 L less with the seats folded (1,600 L)
- The M60 xDrive has no price yet and its figures are provisional; the 40 xDrive has 638 km WLTP and 300 kW charging, below the 50 xDrive
The iX4 takes the iX3's 800-volt drivetrain and wraps it in a lower coupe body, and on paper it gains a little range (828 km WLTP) and a lower drag figure of 0.23 at the cost of some boot space and about €5,000 in Germany. The 50 xDrive is the sensible centre of the range, with 463 hp, 108.7 kWh net and 400 kW charging from €75,900, while the M60 xDrive with 603 hp is the car for buyers who want the performance and can wait for BMW's price and final WLTP figures. Buyers who care only about space and price will find the iX3 the better value, but those who want the Neue Klasse technology with a more expressive shape will find the iX4 an easy car to like.
