The Chery Tiggo 9 CSH is Chery's flagship seven-seat SUV, built around the brand's second-generation Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) plug-in hybrid system. It launched in right-hand-drive export markets in late 2025, going on sale in the UK in December 2025 and in Australia the same quarter, positioning it as a value-priced alternative to pricier three-row PHEV SUVs from BYD, Lynk & Co and Denza. The lineup spans two trims: a front-wheel-drive Elite with a 19 kWh battery and a torquier, all-wheel-drive Ultimate with a 34 kWh pack and up to 422 hp on tap. Chery pairs the CSH powertrain with a genuinely upmarket cabin — dual digital displays, a 14-speaker Sony sound system and massaging front seats — aimed at buyers who want three rows of seating and strong PHEV efficiency without a luxury-brand price tag.
Performance & Specs
The Chery Super Hybrid system combines a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (3DHT) and electric motors mounted in the transmission. The entry Elite is front-wheel drive, with a combined output of 225 kW (302 hp) and 450 Nm, and takes roughly 8.0 seconds to reach 100 km/h. The flagship Ultimate adds a second electric motor on the front axle plus a rear motor for all-wheel drive, lifting combined output to 315 kW — that is 422 hp (bhp) in imperial terms, or 428 PS in metric terms, the same figure expressed three different ways. Torque climbs to 580 Nm, and Chery quotes 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) in 5.4 seconds for the Ultimate AWD, with an electronically limited top speed of around 205 km/h. Some early spec sheets list a considerably higher "618 hp" system output for a triple-motor CSH configuration, but that figure is not corroborated by any of the UK, Australian or independent reviews of the export-market car and appears to describe a different, unconfirmed variant — it is not used here.

At 4.81 metres long and riding a wheelbase just under 2.82 metres, the Tiggo 9 CSH is a genuinely large three-row SUV, closer in footprint to a full-size family hauler than a compact crossover. The standard 2-3-2 seven-seat layout leaves only 143 litres behind the third row — enough for a couple of soft bags, not much more — but folding the third row flat opens that up to 819 litres, and dropping both rear rows liberates a cavernous 2,021 litres for larger loads. Second-row occupants get their own climate controls and, on the Ultimate, heating and ventilation, while a panoramic glass roof helps the cabin feel airier than the tall, upright exterior suggests. Chery fits a tyre-repair kit rather than a spare wheel, and there is no dedicated storage space for the cargo cover once the third row is in use.

Charging & Battery
Chery has confirmed two very different range figures for the Tiggo 9 CSH Ultimate AWD's 34 kWh (34.46 kWh in UK documentation) lithium-ion pack, and both are correct — they simply come from different test cycles used in different export markets. Australian and Chinese-influenced spec sheets quote "up to 170 km" of EV-only range on the lenient NEDC cycle, while the UK-market car, tested to the stricter WLTP standard mandatory for European sales, is rated at 91 miles (146 km), with carsales.com.au independently measuring 143 km in real-world testing of the same Ultimate AWD trim. Both figures describe the same battery and same car; WLTP simply demands a more realistic, harder-to-achieve test than NEDC, which is why the WLTP number is meaningfully lower. The smaller 19 kWh pack in the front-wheel-drive Elite is rated at 90 km EV range on NEDC. DC fast charging tops out at 71 kW on both trims, enough for a 30–80% top-up in around 18 minutes (Chery separately quotes 10–80% in under 30 minutes); AC charging is capped at roughly 6.6 kW, which is good for a full charge in under seven hours on a home wallbox. With a full 70-litre fuel tank and a fully charged battery, Chery claims up to 1,250 km of combined range on the Ultimate AWD.

Design & Interior
The Tiggo 9 CSH wears Chery's current "bionic" family face, with a wide, diamond-mesh grille flanked by slim LED headlights and vertical L-shaped daytime running lights set into the front bumper. In profile, a low, sweeping roofline and flush door handles are meant to disguise the car's considerable bulk, while at the rear a full-width light bar spans between the taillights above a tailgate badged simply "TIGGO9," with "AWD" and "PLUG-IN HYBRID" call-outs on the Ultimate. Twenty-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels are standard on the flagship trim. Inside, the dashboard is dominated by two floating displays — a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster — set into a minimalist, driver-angled layout finished in a two-tone black-and-tan leather scheme with contrast stitching and open-pore trim accents. The top Ultimate/Summit trim adds heated, ventilated and massaging front seats, heating and ventilation for the second row, ambient lighting and a head-up display, positioning the cabin closer to a premium mid-size SUV than a budget three-row family car.
Technology & Features
Infotainment runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chipset, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto along with a 50 W wireless phone charger. Audio comes from a 14-speaker Sony sound system, which Chery says is the most elaborate setup fitted to any of its models to date. A head-up display projects key driving information into the driver's line of sight on the Ultimate/Summit trim, reducing the need to glance down at the digital cluster. Smart features include an in-car voice assistant, over-the-air update capability, and a digital key function, all managed through the central touchscreen's menu structure alongside the climate and drive-mode controls.
Safety & ADAS
The Tiggo 9 CSH ships with roughly 19 driver-assistance functions as standard, built around a Level 2 (L2) suite of cameras and radar sensors. Standard features include adaptive cruise control, traffic jam assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping, blind-spot detection, rear cross-traffic alert and braking, automatic emergency braking, intelligent headlight control, and automatic parking assistance, plus a 360-degree camera system. As of September 2026, the Tiggo 9 CSH itself has not yet been independently crash-tested by ANCAP or Euro NCAP; Chery's smaller Tiggo 7 and Tiggo 8 CSH siblings have both achieved five-star ANCAP ratings, which is a reasonable read on the platform's underlying safety engineering, but the Tiggo 9's own rating remains unconfirmed until an independent test is published.

Pricing & Availability
Chery launched the Tiggo 9 CSH in right-hand-drive markets in the final quarter of 2025. In Australia, the range opened with the front-wheel-drive Elite at AU$52,990 (about $37,700) and the all-wheel-drive Ultimate at AU$59,990 (about $42,700) before on-road costs, with deliveries beginning in November 2025. The UK market received a single, fully-loaded "Summit" AWD grade priced from £43,105 (about $57,600) at launch in December 2025, distributed through 25 dealerships — a notably higher price than the equivalent Australian Ultimate AWD, reflecting the UK's higher import costs and different market positioning for the model. Chery's domestic Chinese lineup also sells a Tiggo 9 with Super Hybrid technology, but under a separate, more recent generation with its own naming and pricing structure that is not directly comparable to the export-market CSH reviewed here.
How It Compares
Against our own catalog of large PHEV SUVs, the Tiggo 9 CSH is the least powerful of this group by a clear margin — 422 hp versus 510-593 hp for the BYD and Lynk & Co rivals — and it also trails the Tang L DM-p and Lynk & Co 08 EM-P on EV-only range. Where it does better is against the base Tang PHEV, out-ranging it by 60 km on electric power alone despite costing a similar amount. The clearer case for the Tiggo 9 CSH is the cabin and equipment list: a 14-speaker Sony system, massaging front seats and a head-up display are usually reserved for pricier trims on its rivals, and Chery bundles them onto the Ultimate as standard. Buyers chasing outright power or EV range have stronger in-house alternatives; buyers who want three genuinely usable rows, a well-equipped interior and a familiar seven-seat SUV shape from a brand already established on our site have a reasonable case for the Tiggo 9 CSH instead.
- Strong standard equipment on the Ultimate — dual digital displays, HUD, massaging seats and a 14-speaker Sony system at a sub-$43,000 price point
- Genuinely usable three-row cargo flexibility, from 143 L with all seats up to 2,021 L with the rear rows folded
- Fast 71 kW DC charging with an 18-minute 30-80% top-up keeps the plug-in system practical for daily use
- Down on power and EV-only range compared with in-house PHEV SUV rivals like the Lynk & Co 08 EM-P and BYD Tang L DM-p
- No independent ANCAP or Euro NCAP crash rating yet for the Tiggo 9 CSH specifically, unlike its smaller five-star-rated Tiggo 7/8 CSH siblings
The Tiggo 9 CSH is not the quickest or longest-range plug-in hybrid SUV in its price bracket, but it does not need to be — it is aimed at families who want three real rows of seats, a genuinely upmarket cabin, and dependable PHEV efficiency without stretching into premium-brand pricing. The Ultimate AWD's 422 hp and 170 km of EV range are competitive rather than class-leading, and the missing independent crash rating is worth watching before it lands in your driveway. For buyers cross-shopping large seven-seat PHEV SUVs on equipment and interior quality rather than outright numbers, the Tiggo 9 CSH is a sensible, well-priced pick.
