The 2026 Avatr 12 update, on sale in China since 8 April 2026, gives Avatr's 5,020 mm executive liftback a new powertrain line-up and a new sensor: every one of the seven trims carries Huawei's 896-line roof LiDAR plus three solid-state units. Two range-extender (EREV) trims use a 1.5-liter turbo generator, a 52.01 kWh CATL battery and two rear motors of 200 kW each, while the pure-electric Max, Ultra, Performance and Master trims use a 98.07 kWh CATL Qilin 6C battery with either two rear motors (502 kW, 673 hp) or, on the Performance and Master, three motors (712 kW, 955 hp). Guide prices run from CNY 293,900 (about $43,900) for the Max EREV to CNY 433,900 (about $64,800) for the top-of-the-range Royal Theater Edition. The Chinese Car Reviewer walkaround behind this page was filmed on the previous-generation dual-motor EV (402 kW, 687 Nm, 3.8 seconds), so the specifications of the updated line-up below come from Avatr's launch and specification sheets rather than from that car.
Performance & Specs
The line-up splits into three powertrains. The range extender uses its 115 kW 1.5-liter turbo engine purely as a generator for two rear motors of 200 kW each, 400 kW (536 hp) and 690 Nm in total, with 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds and a 220 km/h top speed. The rear-drive pure-electric version pairs two 251 kW rear motors for 502 kW (673 hp) and 750 Nm, good for 4.1 seconds and 220 km/h. The tri-motor version adds a 210 kW front motor for 712 kW (955 hp, or about 968 PS) and 996 Nm; its specification sheet lists 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a 230 km/h top speed, and Avatr's launch material claims as quick as 2.71 seconds. Avatr calls the distributed electric-drive layout behind these cars Taihang.

Charging & Battery
The pure-electric cars use a 98.07 kWh CATL Qilin 6C ternary-lithium battery on an 800V silicon-carbide platform. Avatr rates it at 735 km on the CLTC cycle for the dual-motor rear-drive version, 670 km for the Performance and Master tri-motor cars, and quotes about 10 minutes to charge from 30% to 80%. The range extender keeps the 52.01 kWh LFP pack of the outgoing REV, rated at 350 km of electric range and 1,260 km combined. On the reviewer's previous-generation EV, a slow AC port takes about 11 hours for a full charge and the DC port reaches roughly 80% in about 15 minutes.

Design & Interior
The update keeps the long fastback silhouette and has an electrically lifting rear spoiler on 20-inch or 21-inch wheels, and Avatr lists six blue driver-assist indicator lights on the new car. The reviewer's demo car, a previous-generation EV that shares the body, shows green indicator lights at the front and rear that glow when the driver-assist system is active, LED tail lights, a 360-degree camera and parking sensors all round. The front seats are electric with heating, ventilation, massage and a zero-gravity mode, the steering wheel adjusts electrically through the screen, and the glass roof has no sunshade. The reviewer also points to the hazard button, the mirror with a light and the USB ports in the second row as part of a fully equipped cabin.
Technology & Features
The cockpit is Huawei's HarmonySpace with a 35.4-inch 4K panoramic display and a 15.6-inch central screen. The reviewer's walkaround shows an English interface and English voice commands, and Avatr lists a 25-speaker Meridian audio system as standard. The driver-assistance platform is Huawei's Qiankun ADS, standard on every trim, and the launch material also lists a CAS collision-avoidance system.
Safety & ADAS
Every trim has one roof-mounted 896-line LiDAR, three solid-state LiDARs, five millimeter-wave radars, 11 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, 32 sensors in total, and nine airbags are standard. Huawei's Qiankun ADS and the CAS collision-avoidance system run on that hardware.

Pricing & Availability
Avatr showed the updated Avatr 12 on 20 March 2026 and put it on sale on 8 April 2026, with seven trims. The range-extender Max costs CNY 293,900 (about $43,900) and the Ultra CNY 313,900 (about $46,900). The dual-motor pure-electric Max and Ultra cost CNY 303,900 (about $45,400) and CNY 323,900 (about $48,300), the tri-motor Performance and Master cost CNY 353,900 (about $52,800) and CNY 383,900 (about $57,300), and the Royal Theater Edition tops the range at CNY 433,900 (about $64,800). The previous four-LiDAR range extender started at CNY 269,900 (about $40,300), so the entry price has risen by CNY 24,000 (about $3,600). The walkaround quotes a starting price of about $37,700 and an export price of about $34,500 (FOB) for authorized exports with three to four weeks of delivery; those quotes describe the previous-generation car sold before the update, and exporters' prices vary.
The Avatr 12 is sold in China. Avatr launched the pure-electric Avatr 12 in the UAE in December 2024 and in Qatar in February 2025, but whether the updated range-extender and tri-motor cars will be offered there is not confirmed. As of September 2026, Avatr has not confirmed a launch date for Europe or North America. China-based exporters, including the channel behind this video, arrange purchases of China-market cars for overseas buyers; that is separate from an official Avatr rollout.
How It Compares
The updated range-extender Max costs CNY 24,000 (about $3,600) more than the four-LiDAR REV Max, and for that it gains 226 hp (536 vs 310), a 5.1-second 0-100 km/h time instead of about 6.8 seconds and the 896-line LiDAR, while giving up 6 km of electric range and 10 km of combined range. The XPeng P7+ EREV, a 5,071 mm sedan with a 180 kW (241 hp) motor, undercuts it by roughly CNY 107,100 (about $16,000) and quotes 1,550 km combined, but the Avatr offers more than twice the power and the full LiDAR set. Inside the Avatr line-up, the dual-motor BEV Max costs only CNY 10,000 (about $1,500) more than the EREV Max and adds 137 hp (673 vs 536) and 735 km of pure-electric range, in exchange for dropping the range extender.
- Up to 955 hp and 996 Nm from the tri-motor cars, with 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds on the specification sheet and 2.71 seconds in Avatr's best claim
- One 896-line LiDAR, three solid-state units and 32 sensors on every trim, with Huawei Qiankun ADS and nine airbags
- A choice between a 400 kW range extender (350 km electric, 1,260 km combined) and a 98.07 kWh EV rated up to 735 km that charges from 30% to 80% in about 10 minutes
- The entry price of CNY 293,900 (about $43,900) is CNY 24,000 higher than the outgoing four-LiDAR range extender, and the tri-motor cars start at CNY 353,900 (about $52,800)
- The tri-motor cars are rated at 670 km, against 735 km for the dual-motor EV
- Availability outside China is unconfirmed for the updated cars
The updated Avatr 12 is a technology-first executive sedan: an 896-line LiDAR and 32 sensors on every trim, a 400 kW range extender with 1,260 km of combined range, and a 955 hp tri-motor at the top. The dual-motor EV Max, only CNY 10,000 above the range extender, is the sensible pick for buyers who can charge at home, while the tri-motor Performance at CNY 353,900 (about $52,800) is the choice for those who want the headline acceleration. The trade-offs are a higher entry price than the outgoing four-LiDAR car and no confirmed export plan.
