The Chery Fulwin A9, sold in China as the Fengyun A9, is a five-seat fastback sedan with a single front motor, a 70.11 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a CLTC range of 655 km. It is a battery-electric car (BEV), the first pure-electric sedan in Chery's Fulwin line according to Gasgoo, and it went on sale in China on 25 July 2026 in three battery-electric trims with official list prices of CNY 109,900 to 129,900 (~$16,486 to ~$19,486 at 6.6664 yuan per dollar, ECB 28 October 2026). The motor makes 178 kW (242 PS, about 239 hp) and 275 Nm, Chery's launch material quotes 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and the top trim adds a roof LiDAR with city and highway navigation assist. Chery also showed the car on its stand at the Chengdu Auto Show in late August 2026. Video titles that call it a roughly $15,000 luxury sedan are rounding the CNY 106,900 trade-in price of the base trim, which is about $16,036.
Performance & Specs
Every battery-electric A9 uses the same drivetrain: one permanent-magnet synchronous motor on the front axle, built into a 12-in-1 electric drive unit and driving the front wheels. Chery's configuration table lists 178 kW and 275 Nm for all three trims, and Chery's site adds a peak motor speed of 22,000 rpm and a peak efficiency of 95 percent. The 178 kW converts to 242 PS or about 239 hp, so the figure used in this article is 239 hp. Launch coverage from Gasgoo and Autohome gives 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds for the line-up; Chery's own configuration table does not print an acceleration time or a top speed, so no top speed is quoted here. Some early coverage described the motor as rear-mounted, but Chery's table is explicit: front-mounted, front-wheel drive, and there is no rear-drive or all-wheel-drive A9 sedan.
Chery's configuration table, read on 30 October 2026, lists a curb weight of 1,850 kg for all three BEV trims (third-party databases list 1,876 kg for the 655 Max LiDAR), which works out to roughly 96 kW per tonne. The tyres are 235/45 R18 on all trims, the chassis uses front MacPherson and rear multi-link suspension according to Chery's table, and the brakes are ventilated discs at the front and solid discs at the rear with Bosch's IPB 2.0 integrated brake controller. Chery claims a 100 to 0 km/h braking distance of 37.6 metres. Drive modes include comfort, economy, an A9GT sport setting and an adaptive mode, and the car can power outside devices at up to 6 kW (vehicle-to-load).

The A9 is a mid-size sedan, 4,836 mm long, 1,896 mm wide and 1,489 mm high on a 2,900 mm wheelbase in Chery's configuration table, which matches the ministry (MIIT) filing reported in March 2026. The same table gives 4,890 by 1,913 mm for cars fitted with the optional sport kit (a body kit with red brake calipers), which explains why some outlets and Chery's own marketing page print the longer figure. The fastback roofline ends in a tailgate and an electric tailgate comes from the Max trim up. Boot space is 538 litres including an 88 litre underfloor storage box, and the rear seat backs split 4:6. Chery's press material counts 34 storage spaces and claims 90 percent space utilisation, which is a marketing figure rather than a measurement.

Charging & Battery
All three trims carry the same Chery Rhino battery: 70.11 kWh of lithium iron phosphate cells with an energy density of 195 Wh/kg according to Chery. The rated CLTC range is 655 km for every trim, which implies roughly 10.7 kWh/100 km battery-to-wheel on that cycle; CLTC is China's lenient test, so a WLTP or EPA figure for the same car would be noticeably lower, and Chery's own site mentions only a "700 km real-world" marketing claim without a test method. Chery states that a 30 to 80 percent DC charge takes 20 minutes or less at normal temperature, but it does not publish the peak DC power, the AC onboard charger rating or a 10 to 80 percent time, so those are left out here.
Chery stresses battery safety: a needle-penetration test at ten times the national standard, a 31-layer protective structure, and a guarantee that it will replace the car with a new one if thermal runaway of the battery itself destroys it, which applies to the first private owner and excludes collisions. The car also has a vehicle-to-load function of up to 6 kW and a heat pump as standard.

Design & Interior
Chery calls the styling Lingfeng aesthetics, and the car won a 2026 Red Dot Product Design award. The body is a long, sloping fastback with a closed nose, split headlights, frameless mirrors, a floating rear spoiler, a full-width tail-light bar and 18-inch alloy wheels, and the drag coefficient is quoted at 0.223. There are seven colours (Begonia Red, Basalt Grey, Cloud Pink Beige, Dune Green, Mountain Smoke Purple, Ink Black and Snow White), and the Red and Grey are premium paints that Chery offers free of charge for orders paid by 31 October 2026 (inclusive, Beijing time).
Inside, Chery says 8.68 square metres of the cabin is soft-touch covered, in two colour schemes (Night Purple Black and Cloud Purple Grey; the Pro offers only the purple-black one). Every car has a large panoramic glass canopy with an electric sunshade, 4:6 folding rear seats and, according to Chery's launch material, a hot-and-cold box. The passenger seat can be specified as a zero-gravity recliner on the top trim, an option Chery offers for CNY 1,999 against a stated value of CNY 10,000 under the same promotion (orders paid by 31 October 2026, inclusive, Beijing time). The Pro has eight speakers, while the Max and Max LiDAR have a 23-speaker, 1,080 W system.
Technology & Features
Every trim has an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen. The Pro and Max run on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155, while the Max LiDAR moves to a 3 nm 8678 chip with 5G, which Chery says delivers 53.7 TOPS of NPU compute. The top trim also adds the full AI cockpit 2.0 software, a voice assistant with a large language model that does not need a wake word, and wireless phone mirroring, which the cheaper trims receive later by over-the-air update. Other equipment includes a phone-as-key function, NFC card key, 50 W wireless charging and a sentry mode on the Max and above, and three front and two rear USB or Type-C ports on all trims.
Safety & ADAS
All A9s have automatic emergency braking, full-speed adaptive cruise, lane keeping, a 360-degree camera, a transparent-chassis view and eight airbags covering ten zones, built into a body that Chery says uses 80 percent high-strength steel. The Pro has five cameras and four ultrasonic sensors, the Max adds 12 ultrasonic sensors, two rear radars, blind-spot monitoring and automatic parking, and the Max LiDAR adds the Falcon driver-assistance suite: one LiDAR, three millimetre-wave radars, 11 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors, with highway and city navigation on autopilot (NOA), a driver monitoring camera and a dashcam. The MIIT-era reports quote 128 TOPS for the assistance computer. Chery also promises compensation of up to CNY 5 million for accidents caused by the system in parking and navigation scenarios during the first year. We found no C-NCAP or Euro NCAP result for the A9 at the time of writing.

Pricing & Availability
Chery's official site, read on 30 October 2026, lists the A9 at CNY 109,900 (655 Pro), CNY 119,900 (655 Max) and CNY 129,900 (655 Max LiDAR), or about $16,486, $17,986 and $19,486 at the ECB rate of 6.6664 yuan per dollar (28 October 2026). The same page shows limited-time trade-in prices CNY 3,000 lower: CNY 106,900, 116,900 and 126,900 (about $16,036, $17,536 and $19,036), with no end date and no trade-in terms printed. Autohome’s launch buying guide had tied the trade-in price to orders paid by 31 August 2026, but Chery’s site still lists it and the range-extended versions launched on 26 October 2026 with the same CNY 3,000 trade-in discount, so it may still apply; the list prices are the reference and buyers should confirm with a dealer what is valid today. Pre-sales opened on 9 July 2026 at an announced bracket of CNY 115,900 to 135,900, and Chery said it took 18,173 firm orders in the first 72 hours; the final launch prices came in below that bracket.
Chery's promotion for the A9 includes a free sport kit (listed at CNY 5,000), free premium paint (CNY 6,000), 0 percent financing on CNY 80,000 for three years, a lifetime vehicle warranty for the first private owner (including the electric components, excluding wear parts) and a home charger for CNY 999. Chery's site ties the free sport kit, the free premium paint and the CNY 1,999 seat offer to orders paid by 31 October 2026 (inclusive, Beijing time) and cars collected by 30 November 2026; the terms may be extended or replaced, so confirm with a dealer. Chery's site also lists a fourth “655 Zhixing” version at CNY 161,900 (~$24,286) in a taxi-only paint, which looks like a fleet variant and is not part of the retail line-up. The A9 is sold in China only: Chery has not announced an export version or a name for other markets, so availability outside China is unconfirmed as of October 2026.
Other cars in the family should not be confused with it. A range-extended (EREV) A9 went on sale on 26 October 2026 as the 230 MAX (CNY 119,900, ~$17,986) and the 230 MAX LiDAR (CNY 129,900, ~$19,486), with a 28.3 kWh LFP battery, 230 km of CLTC electric range, a 185 kW motor, a 1.5-litre 82 kW range-extender engine and a 450 litre boot; it is a separate powertrain from the BEV covered here. A wagon body style has been shown but is not on sale either. The longer Fulwin A9L is a separate plug-in hybrid (PHEV) sedan, 5,018 mm long, with a 33.68 kWh battery and a CLTC electric range of 260 km, and the Fulwin T7 is a separate electric SUV that Chery lists from CNY 97,900.
How It Compares
The A9 competes in the crowded CNY 110,000 to 160,000 electric sedan class. The MG 07 EV, launched in China on 21 August 2026 from CNY 116,900 (~$17,536) for the 650 Comfort, offers 236 to 315 hp, up to 845 km CLTC and semi-solid-state battery versions, so it beats the Chery on range and on top power for a base price about $450 below the A9 Max at CNY 119,900. The Nissan N7 starts at CNY 119,900 (~$17,986), the price of the A9 Max, with 215 to 268 hp and up to 635 km CLTC, a similar range to the A9 at a higher entry price than the Pro, and the updated N7 launched on 22 September 2026 adds LiDAR variants from a limited-time CNY 129,900 (~$19,486). The Geely Galaxy TT lists from CNY 139,900 (~$20,986), CNY 10,000 (~$1,500) above the A9 Max LiDAR’s CNY 129,900 list price (its CNY 129,900 launch price applied to orders placed by 7 October 2026 and has probably expired), and its single rear motor makes 245 kW (329 hp) on an 800V architecture, with 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 to 7.2 seconds and 640 km CLTC for the entry cars; the 725 km version lists at CNY 169,900 (~$25,486). The TT is therefore the quicker, faster-charging car, while the A9 answers with a front-drive layout, a 538 litre boot, a lower entry price and city navigation assist on its CNY 129,900 trim. The A9's case rests on price and equipment rather than on outright performance. Rival figures are taken from official launch data cross-checked against CnEVPost and CarNewsChina, and all use China-market CLTC ranges.
- CNY 109,900 (~$16,486) buys a 239 hp BEV fastback with a 70.11 kWh LFP battery and 655 km CLTC range, and every trim has the same motor and battery
- The CNY 129,900 Max LiDAR adds LiDAR, highway and city NOA, a 3 nm cockpit chip and a 23-speaker system, for under $19,500
- Large 538 L boot with an 88 L underfloor box, 2,900 mm wheelbase, a 0.223 Cd body and a 20-minute 30-80% DC charge claim
- Single front motor and front-wheel drive only, with no published top speed, peak DC power or AC charging rating; 0-100 km/h of 6.9 s comes from launch coverage rather than Chery's own table
- Navigation assist, the 3 nm chip and 5G are limited to the top trim, and the 655 km figure is a CLTC rating that will be lower on WLTP or EPA tests
The Fulwin A9 is a value play: for roughly $16,500 to $19,500 it offers a good-looking 655 km CLTC fastback sedan with a big boot, a heat pump and, on the top trim, LiDAR-based city navigation assist. It is not the fastest or the longest-range car at its price, and it is sold only in China for now. We would pick the Max at CNY 119,900 for the audio, parking and tailgate upgrades, and go to the Max LiDAR only if navigation assist matters, because the Pro keeps the same motor and battery for CNY 10,000 less than the Max.
