The 2026 Denza Z9S is BYD's premium electric fastback sedan, and its official launch on September 23, 2026 came with a price that reshaped the segment: ¥255,800 (about $37,900) for the entry Flash Charging Premium, with the Flash Charging Flagship at ¥275,800 (about $40,900) and the tri-motor e3 Flash Charging Performance at ¥325,800 (about $48,300). Every trim carries BYD's second-generation Blade Battery, a roof-mounted LiDAR and rear-wheel steering, and the Flagship is rated for 1,100 km on the CLTC cycle, which BYD describes as a new record for a mass-produced electric car. Single-motor trims make 370 kW (496 hp), while the Performance version stacks three motors for 890 kW (1,210 PS / 1,194 hp) and covers 0–100 km/h in 2.68 seconds. All dollar figures in this article use a rate of roughly 6.75 yuan per dollar. Sales began with immediate deliveries, and the first owners received their cars on September 24.
Performance & Specs
The Z9S line splits into two very different powertrains. The Premium and Flagship use a single rear-mounted motor rated at 370 kW, which converts to 496 hp, driving the rear wheels only. The Performance version, badged e3 after BYD's e³ vehicle-control platform, adds a three-motor all-wheel-drive layout with a combined 890 kW, quoted by BYD as 1,210 PS, or roughly 1,194 hp. That is enough for a claimed 0–100 km/h time of 2.68 seconds. Denza has not published torque figures or a verified top speed for the launch trims, so this article leaves those blank rather than estimating them. Every Z9S also gets Denza's DiSus-A intelligent air body-control suspension and rear-wheel steering as standard; on the Performance trim the rear axle steers through independent motors, and the turning circle shrinks to 4.75 m, unusually tight for a car more than five metres long.

| Wheelbase | 3,025 mm |
| Turning radius | 4.75 m (Performance) |
At 5,090 mm long with a 3,025 mm wheelbase, the Z9S sits in the large-sedan class, yet its roofline is only 1,490 mm above the road, giving it the low, sweeping fastback profile visible in Denza's press images. It is shorter than the Z9 GT shooting-brake that shares its badge, but the wheelbase still exceeds three metres, which is where its rear-seat space comes from. Practicality is helped by a 470-litre rear trunk and a 120-litre electric front trunk, plus 44 storage compartments scattered around the cabin. The frameless doors and fastback roofline keep the silhouette clean, and BYD quotes a torsional rigidity of 45,036 N·m per degree.

Charging & Battery
Charging is where the Z9S makes its second big argument. All three trims use a 102.3 kWh second-generation Blade Battery with lithium iron phosphate chemistry, paired with BYD's flash-charging system. On a compatible flash charger, Denza says the battery goes from 10 to 70 percent in about five minutes and from 10 to 97 percent in about nine minutes. In the cold, the claim is that a 20 to 97 percent charge takes about 12 minutes even at minus 30 degrees Celsius, roughly three minutes longer than in mild weather. Those figures assume the ultra-fast chargers, not a typical public DC unit, so real-world results will depend on the station. BYD says it has built more than 10,000 flash-charging stations in China, with the highway network approaching 2,000. Denza has not published a peak charging power in kilowatts or AC charging specifications for the Z9S.
| BATTERY | 102.3 kWh second-generation Blade Battery (LFP) |
|---|---|
| DC FAST CHARGING 10-70% | About 5 min (flash charger) |
| DC FAST CHARGING 10-97% | About 9 min (flash charger) |
| COLD WEATHER (-30°C) | 20–97% in about 12 min |
Design & Interior
Outside, the Z9S is a low fastback with slim horizontal headlights, frameless doors, a full-width tail-light bar and a roof-mounted LiDAR pod that sits above the windshield. Seven exterior colours are offered at launch, with the twilight purple seen in the press images among them. Inside, three interior colour schemes are available, including a pale frost-white leather with diamond quilting on the seats. The front seats are Nappa leather with zero-gravity reclining, the audio system carries Devialet branding, and the roof lining is suede-like fabric. Denza kept physical buttons for climate and drive functions rather than moving everything to the touchscreen, and the rear armrest hides a separate 7-inch control screen.
Technology & Features
The infotainment system is built around a large central touchscreen, a digital driver display and a head-up display, with a rear-seat control screen in the armrest. Two AI layers sit on top: Diva, an animated companion, and Didixia, an AI agent that Denza says works with more than ten ecosystem partners. Denza also claims the Z9S is the first production car to support Apple CarPlay's small-window mode, and lists native connectivity for phones from Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Honor and Samsung. BYD's 1,000-volt flash-charging technology underpins the fast charging, and the vehicle-control stack ties everything together: VMC 2.0 motion control and the e3 platform coordinate the motors, air suspension and rear steering as one system.
Safety & ADAS
Every Z9S ships with a roof-mounted LiDAR and BYD's God's Eye 5.0 driver-assistance system, an end-to-end model trained with reinforcement learning. Features cover urban and highway navigation-assisted driving and automated parking, and the hardware is identical across the lineup, so the cheapest Premium trim gets the same sensor suite as the Performance. Denza also cites a tyre-blowout stability claim: the car is designed to stay stable after a puncture at 200 km/h in a straight line and 160 km/h in a corner. Independent crash-test ratings have not been published yet, and the hands-off behaviour of the system is still a supervised Level 2-plus function rather than autonomous driving.

Pricing & Availability
Denza launched the Z9S on September 23, 2026 with three prices in China: ¥255,800 for the Premium, ¥275,800 for the Flagship and ¥325,800 for the Performance. That is ¥64,000, ¥74,000 and ¥64,000 lower than the pre-sale prices announced on August 3 (¥319,800, ¥349,800 and ¥389,800). Launch offers run alongside the sticker prices and are worth up to ¥80,000 in total, including up to ¥20,000 in optional-equipment benefits, up to ¥20,000 in trade-in support, zero-down financing terms and a year of free flash charging. The car went on sale with immediate delivery, and the first owners collected theirs on September 24. The timing matters for the brand: Denza sold 16,001 vehicles in August 2026, up 33.42 percent year on year, and 101,738 across the first eight months of the year.
How It Compares
Set against electric sedans already in our catalog, the Z9S Premium lands squarely in the same money bracket. The BYD Da Han, the closest sister-brand match, offers the same 496 hp for $37,300 and a stated 1,008 km of range, so the Z9S Premium's 920 km is the shorter figure, while the $40,900 Flagship's 1,100 km beats it by roughly 90 km for about $3,600 more. The IM L6 Neo Platform is cheaper at $32,700 and has more power at 670 hp, but its range is 850 km. The XPENG P7 Plus, at $35,401 with 276 hp and 576 km, trails on both power and range, though it is an older 2024 model. The Z9S adds standard LiDAR, air suspension and rear-wheel steering on every trim. At the top of the range, the 1,194 hp Performance at $48,300 is a different proposition, pitched at buyers who want supercar acceleration in a five-metre sedan.
- Up to 1,100 km CLTC range from a 102.3 kWh pack, priced from about $37,900
- Flash charging claims of 10–70% in about 5 minutes and 10–97% in about 9 minutes
- LiDAR, God's Eye 5.0, air suspension and rear-wheel steering standard on every trim
- CLTC range figures are optimistic; real-world highway range will be noticeably lower
- Torque and top-speed figures are unpublished, and the fastest 0–100 km/h time needs the $48,300 tri-motor trim
The 2026 Denza Z9S is aimed at buyers who want a large, quiet, technology-packed electric sedan with record range and very fast charging, without paying a flagship price. The Flagship at about $40,900 is the sweet spot: same 496 hp motor as the entry trim, 1,100 km of CLTC range and every safety and comfort feature that matters. The trade-offs are that CLTC numbers flatter real-world range, several specifications remain unpublished, and the car is currently a China-only proposition. For a domestic buyer it is one of the most convincing sedans on sale; for everyone else it is a preview of where BYD's flash-charging technology is heading.
