The Geely Monjaro EM-i is the Chinese brand's new flagship in Europe, a 4.8-metre plug-in hybrid (PHEV) D-segment SUV that made its European debut at the Paris Motor Show on 12 October 2026. It first appeared in Egypt on 29 August 2026 as Geely's first global plug-in hybrid SUV, and Paris is where Geely published the European specification, quoted for the first time on the WLTP cycle. The headline figures are 246 kW (334 PS, about 329 hp) and 667 Nm in the all-wheel-drive version, up to 116 km of electric range and up to 922 km of total range on WLTP, and DC charging of up to 78 kW. Geely calls it the fourth new-energy vehicle it has launched in Europe, after the E2, the E5 and the Starray EM-i. What Geely has not given yet is a European price or an on-sale date: the UK is expected to get the car next year and Austrian coverage points to the first quarter of 2027, so this is an early look at a car whose cost is still unknown.
Performance & Specs
The Monjaro EM-i uses Geely's EM-i Super Hybrid system, a dedicated 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine working with one electric motor in the front-wheel-drive versions and two in the all-wheel-drive versions. Geely lists four equipment lines for Austria, according to Austrian outlet autorevue: Pro and Max with front-wheel drive, and Pro+ and Ultra with all-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid (PHEV) makes 246 kW (334 PS, about 329 hp) and 667 Nm of torque, and reaches 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 190 km/h. The front-wheel-drive PHEV makes 201 kW (273 PS, about 269 hp), takes 7.7 seconds and tops out at 200 km/h. (PS is the metric horsepower, about 1.4 percent smaller than the imperial hp used here.)
Those European figures are slightly lower than the ones quoted when Geely launched the car in Egypt, where the all-wheel-drive version was listed at 250 kW (340 PS). Geely's launch material for those markets also gave the electric range as 130 km, but that number came from the older NEDC test cycle and is not comparable with the WLTP figures used in Europe. For European buyers, the numbers to use are the WLTP ones: up to 116 km of electric range and up to 922 km of combined range, with combined fuel consumption as low as 2.4 L/100 km, which Geely states for the plug-in hybrid on the WLTP weighted basis. One Spanish outlet quotes 906 km total for the all-wheel-drive car, so the 922 km figure should be read as the best case.
The 116 km comes from the larger 29.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery that sits in the all-wheel-drive Ultra; the smaller 18.4 kWh pack of the front-wheel-drive cars has no European electric range published yet. As a rough check, 29.8 kWh gross over 116 km works out at about 26 kWh/100 km at the battery before charging losses, which is a plausible figure for an SUV of roughly two tonnes, but Geely has not published an official WLTP electric consumption figure. The curb weight is given as 1,900 to 2,080 kg by autorevue, and towing capacity is 1,500 kg according to Geely UK.
Geely says the all-wheel-drive version relies on an intelligent electric AWD system (e-AWD) that can decouple the front and rear axles and apply torque vectoring, and it fits Continuous Damping Control, with dampers that respond in as little as 20 milliseconds and three settings: Comfort, Standard and Sport. The standard car has four driving modes (Pure, Hybrid, Power and Snow) and the all-wheel-drive version adds Sand and Off-Road. Geely's European positioning of the car is "Performance That Goes Beyond", stressing sustained power, handling and comfort over a single peak figure.

The Monjaro EM-i measures 4,800 mm long, 1,895 mm wide and 1,700 mm high on a 2,845 mm wheelbase, which makes it slightly longer and taller than the current Skoda Kodiaq, according to Auto Express. It is a five-seater at launch, although Auto Express expects a seven-seat version to follow later to match its rivals. Geely quotes a 633-litre boot that grows to 1,532 litres with the rear seats folded in its UK release, while its Paris release for the wider European market gives a maximum of 2,183 litres without stating the measuring method, so the two folded-seat numbers should not be mixed. Other practical figures from Geely are a maximum load length of 2.8 metres, 34 storage compartments, up to 130 mm of second-row knee room, 992 mm of front headroom and 1,457 mm of front shoulder room. For comparison, Auto Express notes that the plug-in Kodiaq iV has a 745-litre boot, so the Geely gives up some luggage space to the Czech rival.

Charging & Battery
Two LFP batteries are offered, 18.4 kWh in the front-wheel-drive cars and 29.8 kWh in the all-wheel-drive cars, and DC charging is capped at 38 kW for the small pack and 78 kW for the large one. Geely says the Ultra charges from 30 to 80 percent in about 15 minutes at the 78 kW peak. That claim passes a simple sanity check: 50 percent of 29.8 kWh is about 14.9 kWh, which in 15 minutes implies an average of roughly 60 kW, comfortably below the 78 kW peak. The Monjaro EM-i can also act as a power source, with vehicle-to-load discharge of up to 6.6 kW for external devices. Geely's global specification lists a 6.6 kW on-board AC charger, but the European AC figure is not stated in the Paris material, so it is not given here as a confirmed number. The 78 kW peak is modest next to battery-electric cars, but it is in line with plug-in hybrids of this size and its main job is topping up between long trips.
| BATTERY | 18.4 kWh LFP (FWD); 29.8 kWh LFP (AWD), gross capacity |
|---|---|
| AC CHARGING | European figure not stated (6.6 kW in Geely's global specification) |
| DC FAST CHARGING | 38 kW (18.4 kWh) / 78 kW (29.8 kWh) |
| DC 30-80% TIME | About 15 min (Ultra, 78 kW) |
| V2L OUTPUT | Up to 6.6 kW |
Design & Interior
Seen in the official press images, the Monjaro EM-i has an upright, premium-SUV face dominated by a large vertical-slat grille with a central badge, slim LED headlights, a raised beltline and a full-width light bar across the tailgate. Geely lists five exterior colours: Cloud White as standard, plus Sunlight Gold, Sky Blue, Night Black and Lunar Grey, and an openable panoramic sunroof. The platform is GEA Evo, Geely's architecture for new-energy vehicles, with the new GEEA 3.0 electrical architecture. Geely's UK release notes that the pictured car is not UK specification, so details such as wheels and trim may differ on European cars.
Inside, the cabin shown in the press pictures has a wide screen layout, quilted beige seats and contrast ambient lighting. Three interior colours are listed: beige, black and brown. The front seats use an 11-layer composite structure, with optional massage that offers eight massage points, six modes and three intensity levels, plus heating and optional ventilation. For refinement Geely cites double-pane laminated front windows, acoustic materials covering about 89 percent of the cabin and 23 airtightness measures, and it claims a 45 percent reduction in tyre noise.
Technology & Features
The cockpit combines a 15.4-inch central touchscreen, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and an optional 25.6-inch head-up display, running the Flyme Auto system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The optional Flyme Sound audio system has 16 speakers and a 1,000-watt amplifier with 7.1.2 immersive surround sound, and the voice assistant understands 18 languages across four audio zones and controls up to 600 functions. A 360-degree camera system can show the ground under the car, which is useful for the all-wheel-drive version's Sand and Off-Road modes. Geely also lists a heated, optionally ventilated front-seat package and the vehicle-to-load function.
Safety & ADAS
The Monjaro EM-i has seven airbags, a high-strength steel body structure and Geely's Battery Safety System. Geely UK counts 13 Level 2 active-safety features and nine driving-comfort assistance functions, while Geely's international Paris release counts 17 ADAS safety features and nine comfort functions, so the exact list will depend on the market and the equipment line. Geely says the car went through 21 full-scenario extreme-condition safety tests and is prepared for a five-star Euro NCAP result, but no Euro NCAP rating has been published for it yet. The hybrid layout also adds some redundancy, since the engine and the electric motor can each serve as a source of propulsion.
| ADAS LEVEL | Level 2 (13 active-safety functions per Geely UK; 17 ADAS features per Geely's international release) |
|---|---|
| ADAS FEATURES | Seven airbags, 360-degree camera with transparent chassis view, nine driving-comfort assistance functions, Battery Safety System; Euro NCAP rating not yet published |

Pricing & Availability
Geely has not announced a price for the Monjaro EM-i in any European market as of 14 October 2026. Geely UK says only that the car will join the UK range as its first D-segment SUV, and its release describes the UK warranty as eight years or 125,000 miles for the vehicle and for the high-voltage battery, with a guaranteed minimum of 70 percent state of health, 12 years against rust-through and four years of roadside assistance; the equivalent European warranty is eight years or 200,000 km. Auto Express reports that the car lands in the UK next year and expects pricing to start in the low £40,000s, about £10,000 above the Starray EM-i, which it says is similar in hardware; that is an estimate by the outlet, not a Geely figure. German outlet Autonotizen expects a price just under €50,000 in Germany, also an estimate. Autorevue reports that the Austrian sales start is planned for the first quarter of 2027, and Spanish outlet Motor.es expects deliveries in Europe in the first half of 2027. Geely says it is now present in 27 European countries with more than 450 retail outlets, and Geely UK plans 10 models in the UK over the next three years.
Outside Europe, the Monjaro EM-i began its global rollout in Egypt on 29 August 2026, with launches reported for the UAE, Mexico and Kazakhstan, and those markets use a different specification with NEDC range figures. Geely's Paris release also shows the Monjaro EM-i next to the E2, the E5, the Starray EM-i and Project KO11, a new off-road SUV planned for Europe later.
How It Compares
With no price on the Monjaro EM-i, the comparison is about hardware. The MG S9 PHEV is the closest plug-in SUV we have covered in the UK: it is front-wheel drive only and quotes 62 miles (100 km) of WLTP electric range from a 24.7 kWh battery, so the Geely's 116 km is the longer figure on paper, while its 329 hp is also more than the MG's 295 hp. The S9 has a published UK price of £34,205, which is where the Geely will be judged once its own price appears. The Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrid sits in the class the Geely is aimed at, with UK prices from £47,480; its 261 hp and 31 miles figures are US-market EPA numbers, so they are not directly comparable with the Geely's WLTP range. The Kia Sportage Plug-in Hybrid is a smaller compact SUV with a German price of €43,100 and up to 66 km of WLTP electric range, which shows how much more battery the Monjaro carries than a mainstream compact plug-in. Auto Express also lines the Monjaro up against the Skoda Kodiaq iV, from just under £43,000, and the Hyundai Santa Fe Plug-in Hybrid, from about £53,000.
- Up to 116 km WLTP electric range from a 29.8 kWh LFP battery and up to 922 km total range, with 78 kW DC charging
- AWD PHEV makes 246 kW (329 hp) and 667 Nm, with 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, plus 1,500 kg towing
- Large 4.8 m cabin with 633 L boot, V2L output of up to 6.6 kW and an eight-year vehicle and battery warranty
- No European price, on-sale date or Euro NCAP rating yet, and the front-wheel-drive versions have no published European electric range
- Heavy at 1,900 to 2,080 kg, and the 633 L boot is smaller than the 745 L of the Skoda Kodiaq iV
The Monjaro EM-i looks like a serious entry in the large plug-in hybrid SUV class, with a 29.8 kWh battery that gives up to 116 km of WLTP electric range, 329 hp in the all-wheel-drive version and a long warranty. The unknowns matter, though: Geely has not given a price, the front-wheel-drive electric range or a crash-test result, and the exact specification will vary by market. If the price lands in the low £40,000s that Auto Express expects, it would undercut the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe plug-ins, which would make it one to watch. Until the price list is published, treat it as a promising but unfinished proposition.
