Mercedes-Benz has turned its best-selling compact SUV electric and dropped the EQ prefix while doing it. The all-new GLA, presented in Warsaw on 29 July 2026, launches as a fully electric car first, in three versions: the 165 kW (224 PS, 221 hp) GLA 200 with a 58 kWh LFP battery, the 200 kW (272 PS, 268 hp) GLA 250+ with an 85 kWh NMC battery, and the 260 kW (354 PS, 349 hp) GLA 350 4MATIC with the same 85 kWh pack and all-wheel drive. Capacities are usable energy, as stated by Mercedes. The headline numbers are up to 657 km of WLTP range, up to 320 kW of DC charging on an 800-volt system and a 107-litre front trunk. In Germany the list prices start at EUR 48,599 including VAT, plus delivery costs, and deliveries of the electric models begin in November 2026. The car takes over from the EQA, which Mercedes still sells in some markets under that name.
Performance & Specs
The three launch versions cover a wide spread. The GLA 200 makes 165 kW (224 PS, about 221 hp), the GLA 250+ makes 200 kW (272 PS, about 268 hp) and the GLA 350 4MATIC makes 260 kW (354 PS, about 349 hp). Mercedes quotes metric PS, which is about 1.4 percent smaller than the imperial hp, so the hp figures here are converted from the kW values; some coverage prints 224, 272 and 354 as hp, which overstates them. Mercedes confirms 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds for the 350 4MATIC. The German outlet electrive lists 8.1 seconds for the GLA 200 and 7.3 seconds for the 250+, with torque of 335 Nm for the two rear-wheel-drive versions and 515 Nm for the 4MATIC, and a top speed of 210 km/h for all three.
The 4MATIC adds a TERRAIN driving mode for loose surfaces next to the usual ECO, COMFORT, SPORT and INDIVIDUAL settings, and an optional "transparent bonnet" view of the ground under the car. It is also the only version rated to tow: up to 2,000 kg braked with the optional semi-electric tow bar, which Mercedes calls a top figure for an electric car in this class. electrive lists 1,500 kg for the rear-wheel-drive versions. Mercedes says the new GLA is 20 mm lower than its predecessor and reaches a drag coefficient of 0.26 (some outlets print 0.27), and that the cabin is quieter thanks to double decoupling of the motor from the body and enclosed drive units. A further battery-electric version with a 71 kWh NMC pack follows in early 2027, along with petrol mild-hybrid versions using a 1.5-litre turbo engine and a 22 kW electric assist.

The new GLA measures 4,565 mm long, 1,873 mm wide and 1,604 mm tall, according to the Polish outlet autokatalog, with a wheelbase that Mercedes states as 2,790 mm, 61 mm longer than before. The extra length goes into the cabin: Mercedes quotes 7 mm more front legroom, 38 mm more rear legroom and 23 mm and 24 mm more headroom in the front and rear, helped by a standard single-piece panoramic roof. The boot holds up to 410 litres, which is 70 litres more than the previous model, and 1,400 litres with the rear seats folded. The seats are split 40/20/40 as standard and the load floor is adjustable.
Because it is a pure electric car, the GLA also gets a 107-litre frunk, enough for a carry-on trolley or a large sports bag, in Mercedes' words. Kerb weights listed by electrive are 2,145 kg for the GLA 200, 2,155 kg for the 250+ and 2,235 kg for the 350 4MATIC, and the German angurten data lists the same 2,235 kg for the 4MATIC. Wheels are 18 to 20 inches, and full-width wheel-arch trims and visual underbody protection give the car a light off-road look.

Charging & Battery
The GLA runs on an 800-volt architecture, which Mercedes introduced with the electric CLA. The 85 kWh NMC battery of the GLA 250+ and 350 4MATIC accepts up to 320 kW at 800-volt chargers, and electrive lists 10 to 80 percent in 22 minutes, a window in which nearly 60 kWh goes into the battery. Mercedes itself quotes up to 270 km of WLTP range added in 10 minutes under the ISO/SAE 12906 test conditions. The 58 kWh LFP battery in the GLA 200 charges at up to 200 kW and 10 to 80 percent in 20 minutes, according to electrive. An optional DC converter makes the car usable on 400-volt stations.
Official WLTP energy consumption is 17.0 to 14.8 kWh/100 km for the GLA 200, 17.4 to 15.1 kWh/100 km for the 250+ and 17.6 to 15.1 kWh/100 km for the 350 4MATIC, and the ranges are 394 to 447 km, 577 to 657 km and 555 to 643 km. The spread is a function of wheel size and equipment, and the figures are measured at the charging socket, which is why they sit above what 85 kWh divided by 657 km would suggest. Home charging is 11 kW as standard with a 22 kW AC charger as an option. Mercedes also says the electric GLA cuts the carbon footprint across its value chain by about 40 percent compared with the combustion GLA, partly through a new battery generation with roughly 30 percent lower cell footprint.

Design & Interior
The electric GLA is the first model in Mercedes' compact segment to carry the new illuminated iconic grille: a chrome frame around a smoked-glass-effect panel with 608 backlit polycarbonate light points, plus 158 micro-LEDs that can run light sequences in time with the Aura soundtrack of the chosen soundscape. The silhouette is lower and more muscular than before, with pronounced shoulders, flush-mounted wheels and a rear light band that links the two clusters. There are now four equipment lines for the first time: Style, Progressive, AMG Line and AMG Line Plus, with a Night Edition on top that bundles the AMG Line with the Night Package. New paint finishes include aquamint and clear blue metallic.
Inside, Mercedes has dropped the sculptural dashboard of the old GLA for a cleaner layout built around the optional MBUX Superscreen, which puts a 10.25-inch driver display, a 14-inch central display and a 14-inch passenger screen behind one glass panel. Without the passenger display a star-pattern trim covers the area. The centre console floats and houses a wireless-charging tray and two cup holders, the steering wheel keeps the volume roller and adds capacitive controls, and 64-colour ambient lighting with ten colour schemes connects the dashboard, doors and roof. An optional Burmester 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos has 16 speakers and an 850-watt amplifier. The optional SKY CONTROL roof, with seven switchable segments and 172 illuminated stars, is not yet available and will follow later.
Technology & Features
The new GLA runs on Mercedes' MB.OS software architecture. Its MBUX Virtual Assistant is built on generative AI and combines models from ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini in what Mercedes calls a multi-agent approach, with a short-term memory for follow-up questions and a choice of three avatars. Navigation is based on Google Maps and, using Mercedes-Benz Navigation with Electric Intelligence, plans routes including charging stops and reacts to traffic and driving style. MBUX Surround Navigation draws the surrounding traffic as a 3D image in the driver display, rendered by a game engine. Passengers get access to more than 40 apps, including YouTube and Disney+ with Dolby Atmos, with DAZN and AirPlay video listed as coming later.
Safety & ADAS
Mercedes fits the new GLA with eight cameras, five radar sensors and 12 ultrasonic sensors, linked to a water-cooled high-performance computer that can perform up to 254 tera operations per second and receives over-the-air updates. MB.DRIVE ASSIST adds a steering assistant to the standard DISTRONIC distance control as an SAE Level 2 system, and the GLA gains a lane change function that is triggered by tapping the indicator lever. MB.DRIVE PARKING ASSIST detects spaces on both sides, including ones without markings, can manoeuvre out of a space automatically even after manual parking, and the 360 version shows a 3D surround view with the steering angle of each wheel. Availability of the assistance packages depends on the market and the configuration, and Mercedes stresses that they do not relieve the driver of responsibility. We did not find a Euro NCAP rating for the new generation.

Pricing & Availability
The three electric versions were opened for order on 30 July 2026, with deliveries starting in November. Mercedes Switzerland states list prices including VAT of CHF 52,200 for the GLA 200, CHF 56,300 for the GLA 250+ and CHF 60,500 for the GLA 350 4MATIC. In Germany, German outlets report list prices of EUR 48,599 (about EUR 40,840 before VAT), EUR 54,978 and EUR 58,108 for the three versions, plus delivery costs and before any equipment line is chosen. In Poland the gross prices are PLN 205,100, PLN 230,500 and PLN 244,500, according to the Polish press. Mercedes says further electrified combustion versions follow in early 2027, so the electric cars are the only GLA models of the new generation on sale at launch.
Israel is not yet on the list of confirmed launches with a price. The Israeli importer Colmobil sells the previous-generation car under the old name: its website lists the EQA 250+ facelift at NIS 359,900 for Elite, NIS 379,900 for Signature and NIS 409,900 for Signature AMG Line, plus a registration fee from NIS 5,499, and auto.co.il confirms NIS 359,900 for the Elite, with a 70.5 kWh battery, 190 PS (140 kW) and 532 km WLTP. The same site lists "The new GLA Electric" among its new models, but shows no price or delivery date as of October 2026. The petrol and plug-in-hybrid GLA that Colmobil sells today (GLA 200 Icon at NIS 359,900 and GLA 250e Elite at NIS 419,900) is a different car from this electric model.
How It Compares
Two German-market list prices make useful anchors. The Skoda Elroq 85 has 282 hp, up to 576 km WLTP and costs EUR 46,890 in Germany, which is EUR 8,088 less than the GLA 250+ at EUR 54,978. For that gap the Mercedes adds 81 km of claimed range, a 320 kW charging peak and its larger interior technology, while giving up 14 hp. The Audi Q4 e-tron in its 150 kW entry form lists at EUR 47,500 with up to 440 km WLTP, so the GLA 200, at EUR 48,599 with up to 447 km, lands almost on top of it on both price and range. Both rivals are priced and rated on the same German, WLTP basis as the GLA, and both already have their own coverage on this site. The Mercedes premium therefore buys a more powerful charging system and the larger battery option rather than more power or a lower entry price.
- Up to 657 km WLTP from an 85 kWh usable battery with 14.8 to 17.6 kWh/100 km WLTP consumption across the range
- 800-volt charging at up to 320 kW, with 10-80% in 22 minutes according to electrive and up to 270 km added in 10 minutes according to Mercedes
- Practical packaging: 410-1,400 L boot, a 107 L frunk and up to 2,000 kg towing on the 4MATIC
- The EUR 48,599 entry price buys the 58 kWh GLA 200 with 394-447 km WLTP and a 200 kW DC peak; the 657 km version starts at EUR 54,978
- Some headline features are not available at launch: the SKY CONTROL panoramic roof, DAZN and AirPlay video are listed as coming later, and the 71 kWh battery arrives only in early 2027
The electric GLA is a serious step up from the EQA it succeeds: a larger 85 kWh battery, up to 657 km WLTP, 320 kW charging on an 800-volt system and a frunk, in a body that has grown in the right places. The GLA 250+ at EUR 54,978 looks like the sweet spot, while the GLA 200 is the cheaper way in at EUR 48,599 with a smaller LFP battery and shorter range. It costs more than the Skoda and Audi rivals it will meet, so the case for it rests on charging speed, range and the technology package. Buyers in Israel will need to wait for the importer's own pricing, because Colmobil still sells the previous EQA at present.
