The Volvo ES90 is the brand's electric flagship sedan: a 5.0-metre fastback-style saloon with a big tailgate and SUV-like ride height, built on the SPA2 architecture and, like the EX90, on Volvo's Superset tech stack. Volvo revealed it in Stockholm on 5 March 2025, started production at its Chengdu plant on 4 September 2025 and calls it the first Volvo with an 800-volt electrical system. Three powertrains are offered: the rear-drive Single Motor Extended Range with a 92 kWh battery, and the all-wheel-drive Twin Motor and Twin Motor Performance with a 106 kWh battery. Volvo's German and UK sites list the car as model year 2027, and it is sold in Europe and, since February 2026, in Israel through the importer Meir. Germany prices start at €71,490 including VAT, the UK at £67,560, and Israel at NIS 399,900 to NIS 539,900.
Performance & Specs
The entry car, the Single Motor Extended Range, has one rear-mounted motor producing 245 kW (333 PS, about 328 hp) and 480 Nm, with 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 180 km/h. A note on units: Volvo's own specification pages print 333 as "hp" in English, but the German page shows the same number as PS, the metric horsepower, which is about 1.4 percent smaller than the imperial hp, so 333 PS works out at about 328 hp. The Twin Motor adds a front motor for all-wheel drive and delivers 335 kW (456 PS, about 450 hp) and 670 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. The Twin Motor Performance tops the range with 500 kW (680 PS, about 671 hp), 870 Nm and a 0-100 km/h time of 4.0 seconds. All three are limited to 180 km/h.
Weight and towing grow with the power. Volvo Germany lists a kerb weight of 2,410 kg for the Single Motor and 2,610 kg for the two Twin Motor versions, with braked towing capacity of 1,600 kg and 2,000 kg respectively and a 75 kg roof-load limit. On the road the ES90 uses a standard chassis with Frequency Selective Damping and double-wishbone front suspension. An active air suspension is available as an upgrade, and Volvo says it monitors the car, road and driver 500 times per second and can lower the body by 18 mm or raise it by 30 mm. Three drive modes are offered, including a range mode and an off-road mode with hill descent control.

The ES90 is 5,000 mm long, 1,942 mm wide without mirrors (2,120 mm with them) and 1,549 mm tall, on a 3,102 mm wheelbase. That puts it in the executive-saloon class, with the extra ride height Volvo describes as SUV-like. Front and rear shoulder room are 1,449 mm and 1,422 mm, rear legroom is 899 mm, and headroom with the panoramic roof is 1,029 mm in front and 960 mm in the rear. Volvo's international and German pages list a boot of 442 litres behind the second row and 922 litres with the seats folded, rising to 464 and 1,445 litres when loaded to the maximum, while the UK and Israeli pages list 424 litres and 904 litres, so the exact figure depends on the market specification. A 27-litre front compartment sits under the bonnet.
The wide tailgate opens a loading width of 1,050 mm between the wheel arches, and the load length is 1,706 mm from the front seatbacks. Small details are family-minded: ISOFIX anchorages in the outer rear seats, optional built-in booster cushions, a power child lock, four USB-C ports, a 15-watt wireless charger and a 12-volt outlet in the boot. Volvo lists a turning circle of 12 metres, which is tight for a car of this length.

Charging & Battery
The 800-volt architecture is the main engineering story. Volvo lists the Single Motor Extended Range with a 92 kWh battery and the two Twin Motor versions with 106 kWh, both as nominal capacity. Volvo's spec pages do not publish a usable figure; independent sources quote 88 to 90 kWh usable for the 92 kWh pack, and ADAC lists 90 kWh. Volvo's specification pages quote 10-80% in 22 minutes for all three versions, based on testing at 350 kW chargers, and during the 2025 launch Volvo said the car can add up to 300 km of range in 10 minutes at such a charger. The 350 kW figure is the test charger, not necessarily the car's own peak: independent sources including ADAC, InsideEVs and Carzone list a 310 kW maximum DC rate for the Single Motor, while Volvo's German and UK sites point Single Motor owners to chargers of up to 300 kW and Twin Motor owners to 350 kW.
At home, 11 kW AC charging is standard. Volvo gives a full charge from 0-100% on a three-phase 16 A supply of about 9 hours for the Single Motor and 10 hours for the Twin Motor (the UK page lists 11 hours for the Performance). Plug & Charge works at compatible public chargers, and bidirectional charging is possible with a bidirectional Volvo wallbox where the local grid operator approves it. WLTP consumption is 15.6 kWh/100 km for the Single Motor and 16.7 kWh/100 km for the Twin Motor versions; those socket-based figures sit above battery size divided by range (92 kWh over 664 km is about 13.9 kWh/100 km) because they include charging losses. ADAC's own July 2026 test of the Single Motor Ultra measured 19.6 kWh/100 km including charging losses and a test range of roughly 500 km, a reminder that WLTP is a best case.
| BATTERY | 92 kWh (Single Motor) or 106 kWh (Twin Motor versions), nominal, 800 V |
|---|---|
| AC CHARGING | 11 kW, 0-100% in about 9-10 h (three-phase 16 A) |
| DC FAST CHARGING | Volvo test value: 350 kW charger (Volvo Germany and UK: up to 300 kW for Single Motor, 350 kW for Twin Motor); 310 kW peak listed for Single Motor by ADAC and others |
| DC 10-80% TIME | 22 min (Volvo, tested on 350 kW chargers) |
| WLTP CONSUMPTION | 15.6 kWh/100 km (Single Motor); 16.7 kWh/100 km (Twin Motor) |
Design & Interior
Volvo describes the ES90 as combining the elegance of a saloon, the adaptability of a fastback and the space and ground clearance associated with SUVs. At the front are the familiar Thor's Hammer headlights, available with 20,000-pixel High Definition Pixel units that adapt the beam to up to five cars and three other objects, and the roofline falls into a coupe-style silhouette with a large hatch-style tailgate. Colours include Aurora Silver, Crystal White, Onyx Black, Denim Blue, Mulberry Red, Vapour Grey, Sand Dune and Forest Lake, and wheels range up to 21 inches in the Israeli market.
Inside, the dashboard is dominated by a free-standing 14.5-inch portrait touchscreen with an anti-glare coating and infrared film that works with gloves. Volvo says the cabin is one of its quietest, helped by custom tyres, soundproofing and optional laminated glass. The top Bowers & Wilkins system uses 25 speakers including headrest and ceiling units, with Dolby Atmos and an Abbey Road Studios mode, while the Bose Premium system is the step below. Trim levels are Core, Plus and Ultra in Germany and Israel and Plus and Ultra in the UK. Plus adds the Bose Premium system, a head-up display and Park Pilot Assist in Germany, and Ultra adds an electrochromic panoramic roof and, depending on the market, ventilated front seats, Bowers & Wilkins audio and, in Israel, active air suspension and massage seats.
Technology & Features
The ES90 runs Volvo's own software on the Superset stack, with core computers that use NVIDIA hardware and receive over-the-air updates. Google built-in brings Google Maps, Google Assistant and the Play store, with unlimited data for four years on the Volvo UK and German pages (the Israeli page cites a 10-year digital services package). Volvo's Digital Key Plus lets a compatible phone act as the key and can be shared with friends and family, and the Volvo Cars app handles pre-conditioning, charging control and remote access. Range Assistant gives minimum and maximum range estimates based on driving style, climate settings and conditions, and when you navigate to a fast charger in Google Maps the car pre-conditions the battery automatically.
Safety & ADAS
Volvo's feature pages describe a high-strength steel safety cage that also surrounds the battery, a Side Impact Protection System and a roof-line airbag. Collision avoidance can detect oncoming vehicles, tighten the belts and brake automatically, and rear radars watch for approaching traffic up to 30 metres away. Pilot Assist keeps the car in lane with steering, braking and acceleration support from standstill up to 150 km/h and can read road signs, while Park Pilot Assist can park the car itself. Occupant sensing uses radar to detect a person or animal left in the car. Euro NCAP's latest-ratings list did not show an ES90 result when we checked in October 2026, and the system is a driver-supervised one, with the driver responsible at all times.
| ADAS LEVEL | Driver-supervised assistance (Pilot Assist, no SAE level stated by Volvo) |
|---|---|
| ADAS FEATURES | Pilot Assist up to 150 km/h, collision avoidance with automatic braking, rear collision and cross-traffic braking, door opening alert, Driver Understanding, occupant sensing, Park Pilot Assist, optional 360° camera with 3D view |

Pricing & Availability
All prices below are list prices from Volvo's own national websites on 6 October 2026, except where an Israeli outlet is named. In Germany the ES90 Single Motor Extended Range is offered from €71,490 in Core trim, €76,590 in Plus and €83,290 in Ultra, all including VAT, and the Twin Motor starts at €81,590 and the Twin Motor Performance at €87,090. Volvo Germany advertises a government subsidy of up to €6,000 for private buyers of new electric cars, subject to the programme's eligibility rules, and a 0.25 percent company-car tax rate that it says applies to many of its electric models with a gross list price of up to €100,000. In the UK Volvo lists the Single Motor Extended Range from £67,560 in Plus and £77,260 in Ultra, the Twin Motor from £81,460 and the Twin Motor Performance from £86,060. Volvo UK lists only Plus and Ultra. Volvo says the ES90 is built in Chengdu, and the Germany and UK pages show model year 2027.
In Israel the importer Meir began selling the ES90 on 16 February 2026 in a single version, the rear-drive Single Motor Extended Range with 333 PS (about 328 hp) and the 92 kWh battery. Launch prices including VAT were NIS 419,900 for Core, NIS 459,900 for Plus and NIS 539,900 for Ultra, with a registration fee of about NIS 5,365 on top, according to the Israeli outlet Queen of the Road. Volvo Israel's own price list now shows the Core at NIS 399,900 (Carzone's price history dates the NIS 20,000 cut to August 2026), with Plus at NIS 459,900 and Ultra at NIS 539,900 unchanged and a first-year registration fee of NIS 5,499, while some Israeli price sites still print the launch figure. Volvo Israel quotes up to 650 km WLTP for this version, and Carzone lists 650 km for Core, 648 km for Plus and 637 km for Ultra, depending on wheel size. Some Israeli coverage repeats Volvo's global "up to 700 km" headline, which applies to the 106 kWh Twin Motor versions that are not offered in Israel. Volvo Israel lists model year 2026, and Carzone counts 24 ES90 deliveries in Israel so far in 2026.
How It Compares
The closest like-for-like in Germany is the Audi A6 Sportback e-tron performance, which Audi lists at €75,600 in its model-year 2027 price list with 270 kW (367 PS, about 362 hp), 680-777 km WLTP depending on wheels and equipment, and 270 kW DC charging. The ES90 Plus Single Motor costs €76,590 for 328 hp and up to 664 km, so on pure numbers the Audi leads on power and range at a similar price (680 km at the low end against the Volvo's 664 km at best), while the Volvo counters with a bigger cabin footprint, more ground clearance and the 22-minute charge claim. The Twin Motor at €81,590 (450 hp, 702 km) is the better match for the Audi quattro versions. The Porsche Taycan starts at €102,600 for 402 hp and up to 700 km only for the rear-drive car with the optional Performance Battery Plus and range tyres, so the ES90 Twin Motor Performance at €87,090 and 671 hp undercuts it by about €15,500 on list price, though the Taycan is a sports sedan first and the ES90 a comfort-focused one.
- Three powertrains from 245 kW (328 hp) to 500 kW (671 hp), with 0-100 km/h from 6.6 s down to 4.0 s
- 800-volt charging with 10-80% in 22 minutes on a 350 kW charger, and up to 702 km WLTP on the Twin Motor versions
- Large, quiet cabin with a 14.5-inch Google-built-in display, 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins option and a 3,102 mm wheelbase
- Real-world range falls short of WLTP: ADAC measured 19.6 kWh/100 km including charging losses and a test range of about 500 km for the Single Motor Ultra
- Entry price is above comparable rivals for the base car, at €71,490 against €62,800 for the entry Audi A6 Sportback e-tron (210 kW, up to 636 km WLTP), and the 4.0 s Performance version is capped at 180 km/h
The ES90 is a technically ambitious Volvo sedan: 800-volt charging, a quiet, spacious cabin, and a range that runs from a sensible rear-drive 245 kW car to a 500 kW all-wheel-drive performer. In Germany the Single Motor Plus at €76,590 is the sweet spot, while the Twin Motor versions suit buyers who want 702 km WLTP. Israeli buyers get only the Single Motor, at NIS 399,900 to NIS 539,900 depending on trim, with a lower 650 km WLTP rating. Expect real-world range well below WLTP, and cross-shop the Audi A6 e-tron if outright range matters most.
