The 2026 BYD Han DM-i is a mid-to-large plug-in hybrid sedan built around BYD's fifth-generation DM system, and the video above shows the car up close. The headline numbers are 245 km of CLTC electric range, 1,560 km of total range and 268 hp from a 200 kW front motor, but the real decision for a buyer is which of the four launch trims to pick. Official guide prices run from CNY 169,800 to CNY 199,800 (about $25,300 to $29,800 at roughly 6.70 CNY per dollar), and a CNY 10,000 trade-in subsidy at launch brought them to CNY 159,800–189,800 (about $23,900–$28,300).
This review sets out what each trim adds, how the Han DM-i stacks up against the BYD Seal 08 PHEV and the XPeng P7+ REV, and where the car is sold. The long-range edition went on sale in China on 11 October 2025.
Performance & Specs
Under the bonnet is a 1.5-litre turbo engine rated at 115 kW (154 hp) and 225 Nm, paired with a 200 kW (268 hp, or 272 PS) front motor that delivers 315 Nm. In BYD's DM-i layout the engine mostly generates electricity and only drives the wheels directly at higher speeds, so the motor supplies most of the pull. BYD quotes 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and a 200 km/h top speed.
The hardware is the fifth-generation DM system with a newly developed 7-in-1 power domain controller. The car is front-wheel drive in every trim, and with the battery depleted it uses 3.44 L/100 km on the NEDC cycle, according to BYD's launch figures.

Charging & Battery
All four 245 km trims are rated at the same CLTC electric range and use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, so the electric range does not change from trim to trim. CLTC is a generous test cycle, and real-world electric range will be lower, especially in winter. Neither the pack capacity nor a peak DC fast-charging figure for the 245 km trims has been confirmed, so none is quoted here.

Design & Interior
Three paint colours are available: Frost-Pine Gold, Pine Shadow Green and Far-Peak Blue. In the cabin, a leather-wrapped centre console replaces piano-black trim, and a 15.6-inch central touchscreen anchors the dashboard beside a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The upper trims add an in-car refrigerator.
Technology & Features
BYD's DiLink 100 cockpit software integrates the DeepSeek large language model for voice interaction. Every trim except the base Comfort gets DiSus-C intelligent damping, which scans the road up to 15 metres ahead, and TBC tyre-blowout stability control is standard across the range.
Safety & ADAS
Level 2 driver assistance is standard on all trims, but only the Premium trim and above get the camera-based DiPilot 100 package with highway navigation assist and automatic parking. The LiDAR Flagship steps up to DiPilot 300 (God's Eye B) with a roof-mounted lidar and an NVIDIA Orin-X chip.
| ADAS LEVEL | L2 (DiPilot 100 camera-based; DiPilot 300 with lidar on the LiDAR Flagship) |

Which Trim to Choose
Comfort (CNY 169,800, about $25,300) is the entry point and the only trim without DiSus-C damping and the DiPilot 100 package. It keeps the full powertrain and the 245 km battery, so it suits buyers who care most about electric range and running costs.
Premium (CNY 179,800, about $26,800) is the trim most buyers will want. For CNY 10,000 (about $1,500) more it adds DiPilot 100 with highway navigation assist and automatic parking, DiSus-C damping and ventilated, heated seats.
Prestige (CNY 189,800, about $28,300) adds seat massage and the 12-speaker Dynaudio system, which is a comfort upgrade rather than a technology one. The LiDAR Flagship (CNY 199,800, about $29,800) is the pick if lidar-based driver assistance matters, since it moves to DiPilot 300 with a roof lidar and an NVIDIA Orin-X chip for another CNY 10,000 over Prestige.
Buyers weighing the Han DM-i against a pure EV can also look at the Han EV Flash Charge Edition, priced from CNY 179,800 to CNY 187,800 (about $26,800 to $28,000). It offers 705 km of CLTC range, 240 kW (322 hp) and 0–100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, but it has no engine to fall back on for long trips, and it starts about CNY 10,000 above the Han DM-i's entry trim.
Pricing & Availability
BYD launched the long-range Han DM-i on 11 October 2025 with official guide prices of CNY 169,800, 179,800, 189,800 and 199,800. The CNY 10,000 trade-in subsidy on offer at launch, with a 31 October 2025 deadline, put the same trims at CNY 159,800 to 189,800 (about $23,900 to $28,300). Incentives change over time, so the price actually paid depends on what is available at purchase.
As of September 2026 the Han DM-i is sold in the Chinese domestic market. BYD has not confirmed a European or North American launch, and a pure-EV alternative in the same family, the Han EV Flash Charge Edition, starts at CNY 179,800 (about $26,800).
How It Compares
The Seal 08 PHEV costs about CNY 27,100 (about $4,000) more at the entry level and offers 400 km of electric range and up to 536 hp on the all-wheel-drive trim, while the Han DM-i keeps a total range within 100 km of the Seal's 1,660 km. The XPeng P7+ REV starts at CNY 186,800 (about $27,900), roughly CNY 17,000 (about $2,500) above the Han DM-i. It has 430 km of electric range and 5C charging, but its engine only generates power, whereas the Han's engine can also drive the wheels.
In size, the Han DM-i is 4,995 mm long, about 155 mm shorter than the Seal 08 (5,150 mm) and about 76 mm shorter than the P7+ (5,071 mm), so it is the most compact of the three while still offering a 2,920 mm wheelbase and five seats.
Pros & Cons
- Real plug-in usability: 245 km of CLTC electric range, backed by a 1,560 km total range
- 268 hp and 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds at a starting price of about $25,300
- Clear trim ladder, with lidar-based driver assistance available for under CNY 200,000 (CNY 199,800, about $29,800)
- The base Comfort trim lacks DiSus-C damping and the DiPilot 100 package, so most buyers will need to step up
- Front-wheel drive only
- Not confirmed for Europe or North America as of September 2026
FreshMotors Verdict
The Han DM-i is a strong-value plug-in hybrid sedan, and the Premium trim at CNY 179,800 (about $26,800) is the best balance of price and equipment. Buyers who want lidar-based driver assistance can step up to the CNY 199,800 (about $29,800) LiDAR Flagship. The trade-offs are a CLTC range figure that flatters real-world use, front-wheel drive only and no confirmed launch outside China.
