Hongqi, the premium brand of China's FAW Group, sells its mid-size electric SUV under two names. In China it is the Tiangong 06, launched at Auto Shanghai on 23 April 2025 after pre-sales opened on 31 March. Outside China it is the EHS5, which made its European debut at IAA Mobility in Munich in September 2025, reached Israel through the importer Samelet in January 2026 and was priced for Norway in April 2026. The car is a 4,750 mm, five-door SUV with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, built on a 400-volt platform with a choice of 62 kWh or 85 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, a single rear motor or a dual-motor all-wheel-drive Performance version. In Israel the three versions are priced at NIS 179,900 for the Core, NIS 199,900 for the Long Range and NIS 229,900 for the Performance, and the Norwegian launch price is NOK 439,900 for the all-wheel-drive version. Euro NCAP gave the EHS5 five stars in its 2025 testing.
Performance & Specs
The two rear-wheel-drive versions, the Core and the Long Range, share one electric motor on the rear axle. The Chinese specification for the Tiangong 06 gives it 210 kW and about 317 Nm of torque, and the Israeli importer quotes 285 hp, which is the metric horsepower (PS): 210 kW is 285 PS, or about 282 imperial hp. The importer's own data sheet lists 0-100 km/h in 7.0 seconds for the Core and 7.3 seconds for the Long Range, the difference presumably being the heavier 85 kWh battery. Top speed is listed at about 210 km/h by the EV Database and by Electric Vehicle Web; Hongqi's Israeli data sheet does not publish it.
The Performance version adds a front motor and all-wheel drive. The combined output is about 412 kW (560 PS, about 552 hp), made up of roughly 210 kW at the rear and 202 kW at the front, with about 623 Nm of torque, and the importer claims 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. A note on units: the Israeli importer and press print 560 as horsepower, but it is a PS figure, and Hongqi's Norwegian site prints 563 hk (metric horsepower) for the same car, so figures between 552 and 563 hp appear in print. The Performance carries the same 85 kWh battery as the Long Range and rides on 20-inch wheels with 235/50 tyres instead of the 19-inch wheels of the other two versions. The front suspension is double-wishbone (sources disagree on the rear layout), and the towing capacity is 1,500 kg on every version.
One detail is worth clearing up. When the EHS5 was shown in Munich, some coverage described an 800-volt architecture. Hongqi's Israeli importer describes the car as built on a 400-volt platform, and the Chinese launch data lists 400-volt versions as well; a separate 800-volt version of the Tiangong 06 went on sale in China on 17 April 2026 at CNY 191,800 with a CLTC range of 610 km and a claimed 12-minute 10-80% charge, and it is not the car being sold in Israel or Norway. Treat any 800-volt claim for the export EHS5 with caution until Hongqi publishes it.

The EHS5 is 4,750 mm long, 1,900 mm wide without mirrors and 1,640 mm tall, with a 2,900 mm wheelbase that Hongqi's importer highlights as the source of a spacious rear bench. Ground clearance is listed at 172 mm for the Core, 170 mm for the Long Range and 166 mm for the Performance. Luggage space is 462 litres behind the rear seats plus a 48-litre front compartment, and Electric Vehicle Web and the Norwegian EV site Elbil Radar put the figure at about 1,600 litres with the rear seats folded. German coverage of the IAA debut quoted slightly different figures of 42 litres for the front storage and 1,611 litres with the seats folded, so the importer's later numbers are used here.
Weight depends on the version. The Israeli importer lists gross vehicle weights of 2,574 kg for the Core, 2,674 kg for the Long Range and 2,775 kg for the Performance. Euro NCAP weighed its test car, a 62 kWh version, at a kerb weight of 2,015 kg. In its March 2026 road test of the Long Range, the Israeli site auto.co.il praised the 462-litre boot and the cabin space but noted there is no spare wheel and described the ride in town as mediocre, while the importer's 19-inch wheels carry 235/50 tyres.

Charging & Battery
All three versions use LFP batteries: 62 kWh in the Core and 85 kWh in the Long Range and Performance. The EV Database lists the 85 kWh pack as 85.0 kWh gross with about 82 kWh usable; Hongqi's Norwegian site calls 85 kWh the gross capacity, while the Israeli data sheet quotes the nominal capacity only. WLTP combined range is 426 km for the Core, 550 km for the Long Range and 522 km for the Performance, and the importer also publishes WLTP city figures of 571 km, 744 km and 631 km. Some Israeli launch reports quoted 515 km for the Performance; the importer's data sheet and most later sources say 522 km, which the article uses.
The importer quotes a maximum DC charging power of 200 kW for the Core and 265 kW for the Long Range and Performance, and an 11 kW AC on-board charger on all three. Hongqi's claim at the car's European debut was 10-80% in about 20 minutes at a suitable charger. The 265 kW figure is the car's own peak acceptance rate, not the rating of a charger. In its road test, auto.co.il reported about 20 minutes for 10-80% at the rated peak power and 26 minutes on a 200 kW charger. The same test measured about 440 km of real range at a moderate pace and about 380 km when driven hard, against the 550 km WLTP rating, and the Israeli site Queen of the Road reported about 450 km.

Design & Interior
Hongqi's Israeli site says the EHS5 was designed under Giles Taylor, formerly chief designer at Rolls-Royce, and describes a dramatic front end with narrow headlights and a distinctive rear light signature. In the press images a thin red accent line runs down the centre of the nose, the lights are slim LED units, the shoulder line is high and the roof slopes gently into a short tail, giving a crossover profile rather than a boxy SUV one. The Core and Long Range ride on 19-inch wheels and the Performance on 20-inch wheels, and the press images show the car in soft pastel green shades, while the importer's entry price refers to white paint.
The cabin is built around a 15.6-inch central touchscreen and a head-up display that uses augmented reality. According to the importer the front seats can be heated, ventilated and fitted with a massage function depending on the trim level, with an Easy Access function that moves the seat for entry and exit, and Hongqi lists soft-touch materials and acoustic insulation. A panoramic glass roof is part of the specification, and one Israeli launch report notes a 14-speaker Dynaudio system in the higher trims, vegan leather upholstery and wireless phone charging. As with the equipment, exact content differs by trim and market, so check the local price list before ordering.
Technology & Features
The infotainment system supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice control and over-the-air updates, and the car can be unlocked with an NFC card or with the dedicated Hongqi app. Wireless phone charging and a 360-degree camera system are on the importer's list, and the car supports vehicle-to-load output for powering external devices. The 15.6-inch screen has a home page that shows a graphic of the car and tyre pressures, which is visible in the press images. Not everything has impressed in practice: auto.co.il described the safety systems as lacking precision in its road test and mentioned stiff door handles, so the software tuning is worth checking on a test drive. Queen of the Road's road test lists the head-up display, ventilated seats and Dynaudio audio as additions on the Long Range over the Core, so check what each trim includes.
Safety & ADAS
Euro NCAP awarded the Hongqi EHS5 five stars in its 2025 results, with 81% for adult occupant protection, 85% for child occupant protection, 74% for vulnerable road users and 82% for safety assist. The tested car was the 62 kWh version, and Euro NCAP says the rating also applies to the 85 kWh rear-drive and all-wheel-drive versions. Euro NCAP noted that protection of the pelvis of a struck pedestrian was almost completely poor and that a fraction of a point separated the car from a four-star result in the vulnerable-road-user category. It credited the car with seatbelt reminders on front and rear seats and a lane-support system, and noted a driver-monitoring system that detects fatigue and some types of distraction but scored only 0.7 of 2 points. Hongqi says the body is 78% ultra-high-strength steel, and the Israeli importer lists autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, active lane keeping, blind-spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition and 360-degree cameras as standard.

Pricing & Availability
In Israel the importer Samelet began selling the EHS5 on 12 January 2026 with three versions: the Core at NIS 179,900, the Long Range at NIS 199,900 and the Performance at NIS 229,900. These are list prices; the importer states that the entry price applies to the Core in white without options and excludes the licensing fee. The warranty is 8 years on the vehicle and 8 years on the battery. The prices were published at the January 2026 launch and the importer's site still showed the "from NIS 179,900" starting price in October 2026.
In Norway the importer HBI Norge, a Motor Gruppen company, sells only the all-wheel-drive 85 kWh version, with a quoted WLTP range of up to 522 km and a 265 kW peak charging rate. The introductory price announced in April 2026 was NOK 439,900 delivered in Oslo, valid through the summer, against a recommended price of NOK 469,900; the Norwegian press expected demonstration cars in June and customer deliveries from late summer 2026, with an 8-year or 160,000 km warranty. In China the Tiangong 06 launched on 23 April 2025 at guide prices of CNY 179,800 to 225,800 for the six 400-volt versions, and the newer 800-volt version costs CNY 191,800. At IAA in Munich in September 2025 Hongqi did not announce a euro price or a sales date for the EHS5; as of October 2026 we found no official German or other euro price, and Hongqi has not confirmed a UK launch.
How It Compares
The EHS5 has no euro price yet, so the comparison below is on specification, and the prices belong to different markets and are not converted. The KGM Torres EVX, covered on our site, is a similar-size electric SUV sold in Germany from EUR 41,990 for the Core (a Nomad special edition is listed at EUR 34,990). It has 204 hp, an 80.6 kWh battery rated at up to 503 km WLTP and a 120 kW peak charge rate, so on paper the EHS5 Long Range offers more power (282 hp), a longer WLTP range (550 km) and more than twice the charging peak (265 kW), while the Performance has nearly three times the Torres' output. The MG IM5, a 4,930 mm fastback sedan we have also covered, costs EUR 53,990 in Germany with 401 hp, a 100 kWh battery, up to 710 km WLTP and a 396 kW peak, so it is longer-legged and faster-charging than anything in the EHS5 range but a different body style at a very different price. The Hongqi's argument is equipment and warranty: a 15.6-inch screen, AR head-up display, 360-degree cameras and 8 years of cover in Israel.
- Up to 550 km WLTP from an 85 kWh LFP battery, with a 62 kWh Core at 426 km and a dual-motor Performance with 552 hp and 0-100 km/h in 4.0 s
- Up to 265 kW peak DC charging and about 20 minutes for 10-80% under ideal conditions
- Five Euro NCAP stars, an 8-year vehicle and battery warranty in Israel, and 462 L plus 48 L of luggage space
- An Israeli road test measured about 440 km at a moderate pace and about 380 km driven hard, well below the 550 km WLTP rating, and criticised ride comfort in town and the precision of the safety systems
- Euro NCAP's vulnerable-road-user score of 74% came within a fraction of a point of dropping the car to four stars, and no euro price or European sales start has been announced
The EHS5 is a well-equipped, family-sized electric SUV with a credible 550 km WLTP range, fast peak charging for a 400-volt LFP car and a five-star crash rating, priced from NIS 179,900 in Israel and NOK 439,900 in Norway. The Long Range looks like the sensible version, while the 552 hp Performance is quick but costs NIS 50,000 more than the Core. Real-world range and software polish are the weak spots, and buyers in Europe still have no euro price to judge it by. It is a strong value pitch where it is already on sale.
